Terrance upon Trent West Derby isn't a dm, he's an enigma.
If only we could decode why he doesn't seem to make the effort, yet still has a few moments of decent play.

He has the potential with his dribbling and insane range of passing to be Englands Pirlo.

Goals are just around the corner for him too. Only a matter of time before he finds his range and starts chipping in regularly with a few.

There has been dividing opinion on whether Trent would work in midfield for years (when we are in possession he has been playing there). I think judging by his performances & stats being the No.1 in everything in an attacking sense since the start of April, puts that to bed. He would have had another assist & a goal today too if not for bad finishing & a great save by Raya. We are playing to his strengths & taking the focus of his weaknesses and reaping the rewards of having one of the best strikers of a football in the world in areas of influence. He's almost DeBruynesque in there. The only issue is that Konate behind him has to put in a serious shift in every single game to cover the space of counter attacking sides & they have been trying to exploit that space in the last few games. Someone mentioned in the match thread that buying a quality right back in the summer might be a good shout, I tend to agree that could be a good option to pursue. We can buy mids too which are vital but we also have a ready made one, that can provide crosses and delivery in which not many players in world football can do. He's terrible defender, lets call a spade a spade, getting in a proper midfield with legs will clearly help doing the donkey work if he bursts forward whilst playing at RWB but IMO he looks so comfortable in that forward role & it's been a breath of fresh air to see him at his best.

100 pct, he’s playing in midfield now anyways when the team has the ball. I’m not convinced having the right back drift into midfield is a pattern that is worth the risk but having Trent in there can work.

Think Klopp is taking a calculated risk balanced by Trent being a huge liability at full back all of a sudden. We'll sign a RB and move Trent in to the middle full time without fannying around with the CB's duties

teams will figure us out in this current setup & they are already targeting that ball over the top, hence Konate/Matip having to do the cover work... it's untenable long term & we have done it out of desperation but it has worked. Getting in a quality RB to have more options and have that option to use Trent that way imo would be brilliant for us.

Isn’t the point of playing this system to give us that extra midfielder and create more space to open up those deep set well organised defences? We have 4 there now and the two more advanced ones can get further up the pitch and also drift wide. Just look at how much better Jones looks plus it suits that type of player. I think Fabinho is enjoying having a bit more support.

People having been wanting our midfield to get more goals and create more, well this system lets that happen. Look at how much space Henderson is getting out wide on the right. Maybe that’s why players like mount and Mac Alister are our targets. Jones is looking more comfortable and able to show more of his attacking qualities and finds that space in more attacking areas. It seems to let Mo drift wide to create space for others and still get into more central positions so he can score.

I also don’t think Trent gets the space or time he does now in a more conventional midfield role. That box midfield allows him the time and space to control and create. The system seems to open the opposition up more and allow us to create more against those packed and organised defences. Somethings else we’ve been needing to find a solution to.

It’s also helps Fabinho with someone besides him so less pressure with the ball and when we first loose the ball. He’s not so isolated and having to cover so much space.

I think it’s more about the team learning the system and getting the right midfielders in. Give them a proper preseason to learn the system. The old style left lots of space at the back when we lost the ball but we always managed.

Thing is, even if Trent was to stay in the right back position, we still need a backup RB, unless Ramsay is gonna work out there. With Milner likely to leave, we have less backup there.

I think this system of having Trent play RB, but move up into midfield is a good system, against the teams who sit back, but I’m not sure I’d fancy it against some of the better teams, or when Konate is out injured. Getting a solid right back in, would give us options- Trent at right back, Trent in midfield, or Trent playing the hybrid of both positions!

If we got 2 top quality midfielders and a right back, Trent could be like a third new midfielder…
                          I don't tip

Sure as ****, buying a RB is going to be cheaper than buying a midfielder that will guarantee a dozen assists a season. Seems logical we'll put him at right back and move Trent. No brainer surely.

Maybe trent has what it takes to become a more box to box midfielder.
What worries me is why has a world class right wing back turned so **** defensively...
It must surely be a lack of being arsed. He has had the ability, but now has mentally shut down. Is he just bored being the water carrier?
Klopp changing formations to accommodate trent, very unlike him.
Will trent get bored of his new position and then fancy being the striker next

he has never been good defensively. Its been the one stick to beat him with since he came into the side - its just the other stuff he did was so good that you let it slide and the rest of the team was functioning like a well oiled machine.

I think the whole point of him playing this role, is not to shift him into midfield on paper. Its an outnumber tactic, gives us an extra world class body in midfield thats playing OOP, and lets a midfielder push further up the pitch, like Gakpo, Hendo and Elliott have done.
