While you might think there are parallels with your corporate job and a local world class full back leaving for a multimillion pound deal. It's a weak comparison at best.Originally posted by Paul12 View PostThere was one job that, yes, felt like my dream had come true when I got it and, apart from the occasional quibble, was a complete joy but I still left it after 7 years to try something different. Like Trent, I gave my all every day for my employer but then, once every few years, took a career de isio that was e clyzively anx wholly about me and my family. That did not make me a person to be slaughtered on the 'net and I see no difference in Trent's case.

He'll need to lose his blasé attitude if he wants to win the fans over. 100% energy and attitude to the game, like when he first came thru the ranks for us. No ambling around, gifting possession with hollywood passes. If he can show passion, he will do ok.
I've no real gripe with him wanting to leave, he's won everything with us so why not try it with another club in another league. Don't like the fact he will go on a free, but that's not just his fault, the club shouldn't get into this position on a young, marketable player.

But from the clubs perspective, what option did we have...
We're we going to sell him 12 months ago, and leave a gap? It would have looked dodgy if klopp was selling a local lad, vice captain, and would he have agreed to go at that stage?
We've never had a proper rb replacement, relying on Gomez when he was fit wasn't good enough, and Bradley was only on the verge of coming through....
We really need better quality and durability in our back up players.
If we end up with Bradley (if fit) and another 1st team ready player as our rb options then we can rotate to preserve fitness and availability.
The same should go for all the other positions.removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

Best thing for him to move on then.
That was in an interview from some time back.
He was asked a number of questions and given a few options each time.
Think he was asked whether he would prefer to win the Balon d'Or, another CL with us, the World Cup with England or being the captain of Liverpool FC.
His logic, if I recall right, was that he had already done two of those things with Liverpool.

I think we've seen his best years. He was run ragged in Klopp's system, it will shorten his career. His next move after Madrid will be the to the USAOriginally posted by baitman View PostWe've had his best years, performance wise.
Seen him arse around for far too long. The odd good game, some great passing contributions still.
Was it a decline, or is he saving himself for his new club
This has obviously been planned out for quite a while, and it has stopped his club getting a transfer fee if he'd been more open about his intentions.

He'll have more chance there for a number of reasons. Quite naive of him to getting drawn into that, but perhaps he already knew his time here was up?Glass half empty club

Tbh I couldn't give two ****s about him at the moment mainly because I'm knackered but also because I just can't be arsed losing energy over it.
He's a talent that much is clear but his defending is questionable so perhaps losing him isn't such a bad thing.Klopp on LFC vs MUFC (March 9th 2016) - "This is why I love football. This is why we watched it when we were young. I can still not have enough of it."
