TAA plays alot of crosses, takes alot of corners and freekicks which we have little chance of winning, when he isn't taking corners he's often back defending and attempting to put long ball back forward onto the box again these are low percentage passes. Take those out and see where he is. His performance level has dropped this year but IMO people are going over the top with the criticism and not looking beyond the stats.

Not really seeing people going OTT with the criticism tbh. He has been poor for a lot of this season and people are just saying what they can see with their own eyes. There may be a number of underlying reasons why his form has dropped off so much, but on the pitch it still boils down to him being average at best by "normal" standards and very poor by the standards he has set.

I do not think (and hope) that anyone is being silly and calling him a **** player or trying to make him a scapegoat like we have seen this season and other seasons whne a few players each season seem to be picked to be insulted and blamed for everything that goes wrong.

But Trent has not been playing well in general (he had a few games here and there where it looked like he was right back at it but they were the exception this season so far) and as such people will comment on it and will, hopefully, do so in a manner that does not devolve into things like "Trent is ****"

The other thing is that Trent, along with four or five of the other underperformers, is a senior player in our team despite his age, and we need to be able to look at those senior experienced first teamers to be the ones that pull the new guys along and who guide our back up players.

So far this season Trent is also part of that group of nailed on first teamers that are both underperforming in their own play and underperforming in terms of hanging the ressies and new guys out to dry a bit too.

So I do think his play is open for some discussion and when the play is below par that it is open to reasonable discussion/criticism.

The flip side of all of that is Trent is a player that I expect is going to go totally in the other direction again at some point and just start reeling off game after game of performances that are more his level. Maybe he will do that this season or maybe this is the "difficult" season that he learns much more from that the good seasons and come next season he is back with a vengence.

Vs Burnley 39 time lost poss
Vs Southampton 38 time lost poss

Not sure how many crosses he attempted in each game as they would have to account for a number of those I would hope, but even if we say 10 crosses a game that still leaves a very high rate of losing possession.

He is also the player in the league that has lost possession the most so far this season. Robertson coming second and Fernandes coming third.

The easy defense to make is to say that he is trying to force attacking play and as with a lot of attacking passes they are higher risk plays and more likely to be intercepted than a low risk pass, but the eye test says he is losing possession with the supposedly easy passes too.
Yeah, he's been poor. That performance against Burnley was worse than his against Leicester so stats don't tell the overall picture.

Think his overall stats against Burnley were a bit worse too so they line up with what the eye sees in that case.

Funnily enough his baseline stats against Leicester were not all that awful and more akin to those of a more limited player than he actually is . More middle of the road so think in that game he looked worse to the eye than through his stats.

Looked good last night, constantly trying to create things down the right for us and I thought his balls into the box looked far better than they have for a while.

He has looked good for a few weeks already, not just Sunday. I thought he’s looked good since the Spurs game.
              Are we winning?

He will benefit in the long term from his bad patch a few weeks / months ago. Class will always out though.

                He is brilliant.

Dropped from England by Southgate because of his poor form this season both for England and LFC.

Wow what an idiot Southgate is. Trent has the ability to make it ****in rain and would be the guy that can supply the 'fackin chances' for Kane.

Good for LFC though. Hopefully trent gets a bit of a rest as well as time on the training field with Nat and Ozan.

To be fair, he has been **** but yup great news for us and gives him a point to prove.

Its an absolute bonus Southgate is totally up his own arse; constantly making points for attention. This is just another look at me statement, which he is doing during pointless games. When it comes to big games/tournaments he ****s himself & picks the best 11 players he has............

                      Posturing ****.

To be fair his there is a lot of competition for places at RB and we have been saying on here that his form has dipped, so I don't think it is that surprising.

And from a club point of view I am very happy about it, it gives him a chance of a break and some motivation to up his form if he wants to go to the Euros in the summer.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Delighted he'll get a good break as I feel he's another that's played too many games (same for Robertson!).

If it had been a month or two back I think Southgate would have had a point, but his form has improved quite a lot in recent weeks. So I think it's a poor decision for England and a good one for Liverpool

I think he has been back to really good form in the last few games......

I’m not complaining, but Trippier has played about 4 games in 2021 since coming back from his betting suspension.

Ah, look at it the other way, Southgate knows how good TAA is and wants a chance to look at the backup options in a group of games that England 'should' breeze thru.
