I haven't watched Chelsea much this season but Reece James is better defensively and more of a goal threat. Not as create as Trent though admittedly.

I don't think his current malaise is all about him either, I've said it before the right side of the team seems massively disjointed.

He's certainly been below his levels though and needs to get back to playing to his normal levels.

He has been woeful though, especially in the first games, looking disinterested and lazy, of course the whole team has, but I can understand Southgate not taking chances, he needs results and Trent has not been doing anything to set him apart.

Southgate tried him on the right of midfield against Andorra and he was poor.

He’s not playing well for his club, he’s never been first choice for England so there is no reason for an England manager to select him at the moment. Unless there are injuries, he will deservedly watch the word cup on TV. The claim that he’s still the best English right back is myopic nonsense.

Reece James seems to be a better fit for Southgate, having Walker and Trippier in the squad as well might just mean TAA misses out on the WC. I really, really hope not though.

TAA's crossing is still so good and consistent, shame that Southgate can't utilise it. Maybe similar problems in midfield as for Liverpool?

Oh yeah I mean I'd be delighted if he did a Matip and just retired from International football. The way Southgate has treated him you could hardly blame him.
