Only thing that did for me was have me wonder what year do they think it is in Riyadh. Is it like being in Australia where they are all now ****ting themselves about the Y2K bug hitting after this NYE?

Bivols jab and footwork are things of beauty. Beterbiev is an absolute wrecking ball. He was constantly the aggressor but the vast majority of Beterbiev's punches were landing on Bivols gloves.

Scorecards were perhaps a little contentious but i don't think it was the robbery that many are suggesting. I had Bivol by 2 or a draw...so essentially a round in it.

And that was Beterbiev with only four or so months to recover from his knee surgery.

As for the scoring, I think a case could be made for all three of the scorecards as well as for bivol winning by a round or two.

Myself I had it 7-5 in favour of Beterbiev and also saw him as being the "hometown" fighter ( he was being treated as such in the build up over there. Was an Islam vs the West slant put on some of the rhetoric) and the more likely to get the nod in a tight fight.

Forward motion and punch volume won it for Beterbiev imo. Think he threw almost twice as many punches as Bivol and that became very eyecatching from the mid point onwards.

Some performance by a 40 yo though.

Have to say that Bivol's hand speed in the opening four rounds was a thing of beauty also.

We watched the fight at the ABC with a full house of young fighters soaking in what was unfolding on the big screen. Was a great fight from a ring education pov with two great boxing IQs on display and on top or close to top form.

Had an orange juice a few hours earlier in possibly the worst pub in Cork to pick a fight in before getting a taxi to head to my ABC. Was meeting some folk from an ABC (Fr Horgans ABC) in the vicinty of the pub (fantastic ABC with a great crop of young boxers, especially some of what I think might be the next generation of top female boxers from Ireland. Also a fantastic club due to all the non boxing work they do in the local area).

The pub ( Hannah Bawn) has a currently undefeated pro boxer, Tommy Hyde, working there (his parents own it) and also has a currently undefeated female MMA fighter, Jodie McCarthy, working there. Not sure many pubs can say they have that sort of firepower pulling pints.

Throw in regular visits from current and ex pro boxers and coaches, and it is not really a place to go around going "you spill my pint, ****er"

Real old school pub smack in the middle of a working class area that whilst it gets a few oompa loompa **** heads through the doors (like most pubs), it is generally stuffed with salt of the earth cracking folk that back their own proudly.

And they are not so fussy that a blow in like me cannot mosey on in.

Good to see sanctioned war criminals in the ring celebrating!

Beterbiev's drug team can take a lot of credit too.

I see that's nobody's arsed with the battle of Britain last Saturday when Dubois ko'd Joshua to retain the IBF title. Is this due to the state of boxing in Britain at the moment?

I don't disagree - just saying that it'll need some serious money to get them to share a ring.

    **** the Saudi royals/business leaders.

That new version of boxing that the head prick in Suadi wants will be the death knell for boxing imo.

Basically LIV Boxing with the top 200 boxers across 12 divisions all competing in a league year in year out in Saudi.

Said it some years ago in one of the threads in the general footy forum here that imo the Saudi rulers know that a move to greener tech would see them eventually lose Western influence due to the West eventually needing oil less and less, so the Middle East rich would instead get the West by the balls by taking control of the sports and entertainment sectors.

Just find the stuff the West crave and then take it over so the West still needs to rely on Saudi etc for their needs.

Was a good night and TBF the seats we had were pretty good, but probably not the best arena for boxing. I thought Caterall had the fight done with a couple to spare but 117-111 was too wide of the mark.
Love watching boxing live, but. way way too many dickheads around it kinda of puts me off going again, must seen at least 20 odd fights going off and we only took in one undercard and Catterall vs Taylor.

Says a lot about the Taylor fight that I watched the Paige Van Zandt - Elle Brooke "misfit boxing" bout instead when I came in last night/this morning .

Taylor boxed well in the second half but didn't do enough to win it. The one card was way too wide but like Hearn said, the right man won without question.

Catterall landed the eye catching work, the clear left hand counters and established the jab. He run out of gas a little as Taylor got stronger, would've been very tight if it was a 15 rounder but would still possibly back Jack to walk Taylor onto a big left at some point. Taylor was lit up several times by big punches and didn't do too much noteworthy in that department himself. He's crazy for not throwing the lead hook more because he couldn't miss with it.

These two fights have been conclusive. After 24 rounds I can't see why there should be a trilogy, it's clear that 'el Gato' is the better man here. Bob Arum needs to retire (maybe expire too). If he wants to talk about Americans getting robbed in the UK he should start speaking about the Prograis - Taylor bout. How anyone could see that 117 -112 is beyond me.

Me and my son had it 7 clear rounds to Catterall, 3 clear rounds to Taylor, and 2 that could have been scored either way.

Cannot see a single argument that says Taylor was worth any more than a draw at best.

Bob Arum is a fat sweaty nonce.
