Don't forget Lewis took on 35-0 Gary Mason in his 15th fight as the underdog. I got 6-5 for that

Yeah, that's what I respected Lewis for, he took them all on regardless of who they were.
No shirking from Lewis, he eventually got around to fighting all his opponents/challengers & gave them a run for their money.

Regarding Taylor in the earlier posts, I know Taylor gave as good as he got & more but you could see that some of the later fights in his career, he kind of laboured in them which got me thinking that he had no business being there for.

Not sure about beatings a such. Hard, hard fights no doubt but Taylor never took sustained beatings.

That run Jaco listed above is testament to how good a run it was (apart from the lad they brought in from Thailand to rollover)

I'm struggling to think of a British boxer who could come close to it in the same time frame.

Lennox Lewis and a few times at that. A lot of the guys that now get dismissed as being routine wins for Lewis were seen as big threats before Lewis dismantled them.


Lewis often did runs of wins that were all against guys that people were talking about having a chance of knocking Lewis out pre fight.

Morrison, Mercer, McCall, Akinwande, Golota, Briggs was a run of six in a row where people talked about how Lewis could come unstuck against any of thesix.


Holyfield, Grant, Botha and Tua was another run of four. Grant and Tua were defo seen as wrecking machines until Lewis gave each their first L.


You could even throw in that run of Razor Ruddock, Tucker and Bruno in there.

Taylor is a victim of feeling the effects of too many beatings if he wins the fights but always comes out knackered after them, it is always gonna catch up with him.

Just to echo what Spud said a bit.

I'm not sure you could count them as beatings tbh. At least not on Taylor's end.

Fights he had to work hard in yes, but he was the one handing out most of the punishment in them rather than being on the receiving end.

I do wonder if Taylor is finished though (at the highest level that is). He looked awful in his last two fights for me. Lacking in sharpness, mobility and did not look motivated.

Might be one of those guys that gets "old" by the time he gets around the 30 mark.


Do think he may go down as one of the more underrated undisputed champs and not quite get the recognition that in my eyes he deserved when he was flying in the ring.


Think the arguement that will be made against him will be that his best run lasted only six fights, but for me there was some real quality in the ring against him during that run and nobody was knocking the level of those guys before he met and beat them.


Baranchyk, Postol, Prograis and Ramiraz were four very good wins against men who could either bang or break you down. Three of them getting their first loss at the hands of Taylor.

Beating Postol was the fight that marked Taylor as being a genuine high level operator for me. Postol was a slick fighter that was as tough as nails. Him and Lucas Matthysse I used to love watching.

Yeah, i think he's finished at the absolutely elite level.

In saying that he may have a late career flourish like his compatriot Ricky Burns and get an alphabet title if he moves up in weight and Crawford vacates/is stripped of his titles to chase the Canelo fight.

I went along to the Postal weigh in. It was held beside a Boots the chemist in St Enoch shopping centre. Surprise by just how tall Postal was. Always knew he was a tall, rangy fighter but seeing him in person it was quite surprising...especially given the weight he was fighting at.

Don't be too harsh on yourself. The best of us, myself included , had Taylor on the P4P list and he deserved to be. Undisputed champs don't grow on trees.

Looking forward to the Taylor Catterall rematch?

Not really.



The rematch should have happened straight away when there was still a buzz over Taylor's Mam, gran and auntie being the three judges.


Since then Catterall, despite winning twice, had to go the distance with Darragh Foley and a badly faded (now retired) Linares.



And Taylor has been even worse what with only having a loss to his name since the Catterall bout and having made a mockery of me having bigged him up by putting him onto one of my P4P lists some time back.


Does not help that I just cannot take to either of them as people either. The Tartan Tomato with his liking of homophobic remarks and Catterall just for being just so bland.


It's gone from being a fight that had a bit of spice to it to one where they are struggling to garner any real attention at all for it.


Have not even followed the training camps and what not beforehand so have zero idea what condition either looks to be in.
