    Absolutely.

However to be fair I don't think anyone has actually said that the price is his fault, and quite rightly too as it's nothing to do with him.

We signed a young England striker on the last day in January when Newcastle were fully aware that we had just received £50m. We were always going to pay over the top when you look at it like that.

I'm sure he'll do well for us.

He's been injured for a large part of his time here and has never been fully fit, give the guy a chance FFS
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I don't think anyone don't want to give him a chance. Some just don't see what he's going to bring in. I see him as a Peter Crouch, albeit more expensive one. Doesn't bring much apart from his sheer size and physique. I hope to be wrong.

If we had paid 35m for Suarez and 22m for Carroll no-one would be moaning and we'd all still be describing Luiz as a bargin at 35m.
LFC paid out 57m in transfer fees to bring in 2 quality strikers - that's all the club sees and that is all that is shown on the balance sheet.
The price of the individual player is irrelevent.

Carroll will be as influencial for us in the PL as Rooney has been for Utd. Keep him fit, get him the right service and he is unplayable.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

And I'd rather we played differently than having a battering ram of a player. If he gives us an option and we can afford to bring other players, then I wouldn't see anything wrong with him being around. Crouch left because he was at one point, considered as an option to the better Torres. I just don't want us to build a team around Carroll, rather the other way round.

From what I've seen he's a totally different player. I'd loved to be proved wrong, but I just don't see Carroll as the type of player who would pull defences around. Torres used to do that at his best, Carroll is a different player.

Don't think Birdman is saying Carroll is similar to Rooney but can have as big as an influence as Rooney if he's fully fit and firing.

MOTD showed a good highlights reel of him in one game doing just that, creating space for other players, for a daft geordie he has some footballing brain.

Yeah, I know what he means but not sure Rooney had that much influence to United's game this season. We'd want to have a team without having to rely on a particular player though. Against Spurs, Carroll was marshalled easily and all our attacking game went to tits.

£20m for Carroll would still have been high for an unproven striker. I haven't once said I've written him off, so I don't get the hysteria to be honest. I had read that Liverpool were interested in him under Benitez for £5m yes, but that doesn't get away from the fact we were shafted by £20m and £90k a week for an unfit player.

If he had come in in the summer for between £15m and £20m I would never have needed to say the surplus was a horrendous waste of money.

He's barely played - that is some premium we've paid for a statement of intent, or to signal the return of Kenny Dalglish. Just seemed massively wasteful. Even £10m less, that could have gone on another defensive player.

They stuck in a £30m bid didn't they? And a £30m bid for Llorente, and a £30m bid for Aguero and a £30m bid for Pele...

That misses the point though - we wouldn't have physically been allowed to spend that money after that window, so it's not a waste, hence your point is moot unless:
                              1) You're convinced this outgoing money (that we never had in the first place) is now somehow going to hinder us in a 'non-playing staff' area of the club such as stadium plans..?
2). You're simply saying he was overpriced, which we all agree with.

                                I remember that...

Think they bid £30m for Messi as well and who could forget their sneaky bid for Jermaine Defoe..
