Seeing that most players get a bump when they have a decent game for their national side... I didn't watch the whole game yesterday but what I saw of it he was very creative and should've had 3 assists. Sounds like a typical Downing performance with those around him letting his hard work go to waste

Capello is another clueless manager who clearly rates him, he was the only attacking player to play the entire game. It's a wonder that Capello's still in his job

Not amazing but he was probably the best player on the pitch for England, but it doesn't take much these days to do that. Rodwell was very good

Thought he was better than alright. He'll never dominate a game and destroy opposition on his own but he put some cracking balls in, mainly from the left but also from the right. Played well.

Totally agree, he's the ultimate team player with absolutely no ego. A bit like a skillful Dirk Kuyt without the goals or the workrate

Only saw a bit of last night's game but I saw him put in a couple of good crosses. Hope the performance gives him more confidence to reproduce that sort of form for us in the upcoming games

I still think a major problem for us is where the potential targets position themselves and the types of run they make.

People have suggested that Downing has been playing worse for us of late my feeling is that the problem is a combination of a deep CM duo and Carroll behind Suarez too often. I think the seeming loss of form is in part due to the fact Kuyt has been playing less - his runs are much more the sort of thing that makes the most of Downings abilities.

I also thought he had a very good game. Imo one of his best performances as of late.

I think that we'd developing two styles of play, one with Carroll and Downing with crosses and knock downs, and the one we saw today with the quick, short, one touch passing. I don't think the second system suits Downing (or Carroll).
