      Yeah.......alleged footballer.

To be fair, he's just average, which is not quite as bad as bang average, but there are times when average is worse than just being ****.

Posted this in the Carroll thread and reposting it here:

Downing reminds me the high school nerd in hollywood movies who has got a date with the hottest cheerleader and goes about doing all sorts of awkward stuff as is he is unsure of what to do.

He is obviously better than what he is showing right now. Downing should take up some responsibility in an attacking sense. Just drive forward with the ball. Try to take on some players. Demand the ball occasionally. Be aggressive. On the rare occasions he has done that he has looked like a Liverpool player. Unfortunately on most occasions, he has been content giving a five yard pass to Enrique and let him do the work.

There were also moments when those 5 yard passes fell short.

So Downing only attempted one forward pass into the box and that failed?

Yeah, for a winger that seems really poor. Most of his passes are back to the LB or RB position. Basically he runs with the ball for a bit, turns and passes backwards. Its just too negative for someone who is supposed to be an attacking threat.

This was a major problem for me last night with most of our players

They got in positions to put balls in and checked back

You lose all advantage when you do that as defenders can set themselves with their backs to goal (which is how they want to play)

Aye, look at Man City's in comparison to ours. They have had less passes and more failed passes yet they've got the ball in the right areas. They've had countless passes into the box yet we've had just a tiny few.

I think that was Man City's game plan. Let us have the ball and attack on the break when we loose possession.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
