I think UEFA and the police were both aware of the scale of travelling fans with or without tickets and its their job to organise and deal with these fans

The fact that so many ticketless and those with forgeries got into the ground only goes to show their failures

I am not condoning those who try to bunk in BUT policies should be put into effect to deal with these effectively and correctly

Istanbul effectively dealt with the problem, Athens didnt
    Cant disagree mate.

As i've said, i dont think fans bunking in without tickets are in the right.

But also, it's upto the authorities to make sure it doesnt happen, and they failed in that respect.

Sorry, I feel, as supporters we should be a little more responsible, that's all. It's in the culture methinks, none more than that.
sorry mate but your talking bollox

i was there and i was VERY respectful when i spoke to the police because i was scared of getting arrested.
i was there when i watched the police kicking and batonning people for simply being at the front of a huge crush
i was there when junior greek policemen where telling me that they had no authority to do what they knew was the right thing to alleviate the crush

Would I have got married during the football season ?
      Anyway, it was Rochdale reserves.'

          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

You would think the authorities would learn from history

Hillsborough 1988 spot checks by police on route to the stadium. Without a genuine ticket you didnt get through the barriers to proceed towards the next check point

Hillsborough 1989 no police checks - rest is history sadly

Athens no spot checks on route to stadium

Istanbul dealt with the situation why couldnt Athens??

No **** sherlock they returned nearly 5000 tickets

Better policing would have prvented ticketless and those with forged tickets from getting near the ground

Poor organisation and policing is what led to the problem getting out of control
The nub of it. It's alright moralising that 'ticketless fans shouldn't try to get in', but nor should people rob houses - yet that doesn't mean you are not at fault yourself if you choose to leave your windows and doors open. Except in this instance, not only are UEFA responsible for the organization of the event - as in preventing non-ticket/invalid ticket holders getting in - they are extremely culpable in the creation of, and fully forewarned about, the creation of a highly lucrative tout/fake ticket market.

Also - we don't know how many were in unwitting possession of forgeries that beat the system as opposed to fans 'barging in'

What do you think was causing the crush? (impatience, or people trying to sneak in?)

Reducing the gap obviously doesn't help, but it still requires people to push.

reducing the gap, then pretty much closing it caused the crush

when there's nobody telling anyone whats happening, and no signs letting you know there's a checkpoint ahead doesn't help either
