    That is certainly a possibility.

The nett spend argument is hard to pin down as a/ we wouldn't see all of the nominal fees come back to us after agents etc. take their cuts and b/ there is the increased wages to take into account. In my opinion there was a step change in buying style and power this summer - when have we ever made two £10m+ buys in a summer? When have we spend £6m on a youngster who might not see much first team action immediately (Lucas)?

To me this "the Count was right and G&H have done nothing" argument is equally ludicrous as an exaggeration of what has happened as the claims that we are on a par with Man United in spending terms.

I also think that maybe we should look towards the old Arsenal model of spending rather than that of United as a realistic and sustainable one which we can move forward with. We can then spend more when a new stadium is available.
        Blinding post, that.

He moved to Real 23/8 so there was plenty of time. It would have been settled 21/8 which would have given us a week to sell Momo or Carson. A week is a very loon time in a transfer window!

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold.

A voice of reason in an otherwise very melodramatic thread. Uncertainty is horrible but why do we do this to ourselves?

The club debt was paid off as part of the initial takeover. This was paid for through a loan (some towards the debt, the rest to moores). This loan is being repaid by the club not G&H. All we've done is swap one debt for another.

When have we ever had so much money before? As was mentioned above this summer was always going to be different than previous ones due to tv, cl and big sales. We had much more money (nothing to do with the take over) and so could behaving differently in the transfer market.

It is, but that could have been panic buying. Maybe the other players Rafa would have wanted were not available.

                    Unlikely though, surely?

They already spunked £30m+ on central midfielders in the summer.

No, cos he's already stated so himself. it's either us or abroad.

Or is Mascher a liar too? Can we trust no one. And in that case, do we want a player at our club who is only here for money, and would happily jump ship to united at the drop of a hat?

Yes, it is most certainly more complex. The kuyt money was part of the debt they took over and can't be considered transfer money as such IMO.

G&H has not done NOTHING they just did A LOT less than most of us thought in May. We were talking about Villa and Eto'o ffs. Real wingers as well. Alves and ****e.

Considering the CL final spot and the new TV deal we didn't spend anywhere near what most of us expected.

He's already come out and said he wouldn't join anotehr English club. Not that I believe everything footballers say, but I think he would opt for Barca or Real over any English club.

Having siad that I think he will sign for us, so I couldn't say that I'm too concerned.

                            Surely not.

The Mancs were after him for quite a while when he was with River and later Corinthians. A lot of their supporters were banking on him being their player sooner or later.

Us signing him put Ferguson's nose right out of joint, demonstrated by his bitter outburst when he complained about how we'd managed to wangle his signing.

The only temptations I can see for Masher in signing for those horrible *******s would be linking up with Tevez again and, of course, remaining in the north-west.

If he's got anything about him, though, he wouldn't even entertain the idea. ****ing United my arse. If we **** it up, I'm still convinced he'll end up at Barca.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

One of the reasons I want local players in the squad is thaty they show loyalty, but as Gerrard nearly proved, nothing in football is concrete.

Why should an Argentine show great loyalty to LFC? The fact that he wishes to remain with Rafa, the man who placed trust in him is at least something. But if LFC failed to show heir trust in him and purchase him on the agreed deal, why should he shw any loyalty?

But as I said above, I think he'll stay.
