    Ahhhhh, ok.

But I can see why other local clubs might be pissed if AFC steal their best players and nick all their funding

My take is that today is all about survival of the fittest. If the other teams can't provide better than AFC then why should they get those players?

Yes, totally agree. Although that's probably against the socialist principles of most of the leadership and support.

There's no avoiding it, and perhaps no point trying to make excuses - there will be resentment particularly in the first few years for the new club.

We cant 'nick' funding. Anyone can apply for it. We are not even accepted in the League yet. If other clubs didnt like us then we wouldnt get in, however, we have received an absolute **** load of help from a whole host of clubs we will be playing against. St Helens Town, FC United and Runcorn Linnetts but to name a few. The latter two are fan owned and run cubs also so thier help has been amazing. Infact any club we have approched has been nothing but friendly and helpful and if we were gonna nick thier funding and players would they help us?

iam 1 of those fans that when i 1st heard the stories i was like WTF bollocks to that they can stick it,all that kinda stuff, but like so many i based my opinons on the many stories that were goin around at the time, after comeing on here and haveing a few things straightened out for me my opinon has changed even though i still have a few minor doubts....

my local non league team brings alot to the town, they hold kids coaching season every monday for a pound, kids aged from 5-11 get to go there,i went and i can tell you it was a special feelin as a kid playing on that pitch and under the floodlights.there ground is also used for the final of the sunday league cup(the fa cup of the sunday leagues),if once afc liverpool is up and running with there own ground and well established did things like this then why not,if they can pick a area of liverpool that dosnt have a non league team were they can make a impact within the comunity and take some of the kids off the streets and onto a footie pitch then hell who ami to say no.if it makes a differnece then iam all for it.....

good luck to the lads who ever you are and maybe ill come down and watch
every area of liverpool has no non league team. from step 6 of the non league all the way up to the premiership, there are only two teams within the city boundaries Liverpool and Everton, and even one of them is leaving.

When we get our own ground it'll be in Liverpool, and then there'll still only be two teams, but it'll be Liverpool and AFC Liverpool. We'll monopolise the city.

And we aim to do a lot of good for the community in the process.

So they played a couple of bad games, hell even the first team has a couple of bad games, would you stop watching them just because of that. Our future is in the reserve team, that is why I'm passionate about them. When I see players like Nemeth scoring in prettty much every game, I feel it's worth it. When I see Plessis going into the first team against Arsenal and getting MOM, I like that.

                    Each to their own though.

I understand your reasons for supporting AFC and I commend them, but to justify it with such a negative opinion of the reserves though just doesn't ring true.
I don't have Setanta and I don't travel to Warrington to watch them so I can't comment on the quality, although they won the league so there must be good players in there.

I used to watch the reserves as a kid, and I used to watch them sometimes at Knowsley Road a few years back. Whether the quality was great (eg Paul Jewell, Kevin Sheedy et al) or the quality was less good, the one thing I'd say is that I have always watched reserve football with the mindset of a scout rather than a fan.

I'm looking to see if there's any kids who can make it. No matter what the quality, I'm never going to get passionate about the reserves during a game. I'll only ever enjoy it on a more detached level.

I think a lot of people are the same.

I have no affinity with any local sides and no reason to support them. Its like when I watch SuperLeague when theres no footy on sometimes. I might choose St Helens to give me an interest cos they're localish, but I don't really care.

Fans need to care. Existing non league sides obviously aren't bringing people back through the turnstiles for that reason. But AFC Liverpool can, because our identity is based on a pre existing support.

BTW All power to you and red hot for trying to make a difference. As I slip into philosphical mode, I commend you for trying to buck the trend of the greedy capitalist *******s.

BTW Still think your opinion on the reserves is (insert demeaning and arrogant term here)
I personally think it'll be a positive. Think of the fella who takes his lad to see Tranmere cos its cheaper. The lad becomes a Tranmere fan and not a Red.

Think of all the kids educated to be a football fan by TV, rather than taught how to be a Liverpool fan by going to real games with fellow Reds.

I think we'll be a benefit to LFC for both those reasons.

We've not encountered any to be fair. The non league clubs have been wonderful to us. It's a very friendly world and everyone has been fantastic to us.

what i ment by a non league team in liverpool is most towns in liverpool have decent semi pro teams,we have in the same area marine a non league side and bootle fc(although they moved there ground some time back) off the top of my head so imo it would be pointless afc gettin a stadium by us but by chooseing a location and there will be lots were there isnt anythink like this would be a bonus to the club and bring something to that area, and lets face facts now there are a few areas in liverpool that could do with sumin like this...

Alun, I can't commend you et al enough. As I said, I can't think of a downside to what you are doing. What you are adding to the local community is invaluable. There's little I can do to help, as I live in the US, but I will continue to be a cheerleader.

Best of luck, you are a hero.
