Interesting that Downing is creating chances and delivering a large number of crosses with a decent level of accuracy. Have we perhaps been harsh in the way he's been judged so far?Originally posted by Lecter View PostStats from Anfield Index

It seems his stats compare favourably with Young and NaniThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I guess the poor results is affecting our judgement, if we'd been taking more of our chances and winning more games we might have a different idea about how players are performing. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Downing started well and was full of confidence. WIngers are all about confidence. Out wide it's easy to hide.
He's lost his confidence and is now suffering.
We need to revert back to the fluid front line game plan we had the end of last season.
The likes of Downing, Suarez, Kuyt, Bellamy and Maxi are more suited to darting about and swapping sides. Whether you can accomodate Carroll in that kind of lineup is another matter
Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique
Lucas Adam
Maxi Kuyt Suarez Downing

It's all very well saying Suarez should be converting his chances, and that someone else would do a better job at it. But what no stat says, is how many of those chance came out of nothing. Nothing but pure guille and skill.
I have no problem with him having a pop at goal, what I am concerned about are two fold. Other attacking players on his wavelength, and him releasing to a team mate.
Both of which will come with time.
As for Kenny not being the right manager, my only concerns with him is his insistance on playing the blip out of a player and his seemingly inability to make game changing tactical subs at an appropriate time when things are clearly not working.

I think it is worth noting that Downing has play at least 90 mins more than every other player there and that Nani especially offers a lot more in his all round game.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostInteresting that Downing is creating chances and delivering a large number of crosses with a decent level of accuracy. Also crosses do not = chance created, never mind a good chance.

Sadly I think it is a great deal of our chances.Originally posted by Kronenburg1892 View PostIt's all very well saying Suarez should be converting his chances, and that someone else would do a better job at it. True, but chances created per minute are similar for Downing, Young and Nani.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostI think it is worth noting that Downing has play at least 90 mins more than every other player there and that Nani especially offers a lot more in his all round game.

FFS sake, Alex, it's not rocket surgery. Stats are good if they support what you already think. If they don't they're crap.Originally posted by Alex View PostSo now stats are a good judge of player, but a few pages back they were useless? It's hard to keep up lads..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
