This.Originally posted by peekay View PostI was a huge Rafa fan and one of the big issues with him being dismissed was that he was not given the time or resources to correct his mistakes. He made mistakes in the transfer market and he paid for it.
It is staggering that one of Rafa's biggest fans is advocating the same for the King. Given that he has not been given that much time. I agree he has been given a lot of resources. I am also not too happy with some of the signings. BUt calling for his head after 11 games into a new season is pure madness.
Kenny and Commoli have a put a footballing strategy in place. Let us wait and see if it will bear fruit and see where it takes us.
And this.Originally posted by CJ View PostMost managers don't get it all their own way. Rafa did imo a great job. To say he did have time is at best silly. Maybe he didn't have the right backing and the problems at the club drained him. However other managers have had worse to contend with (at other clubs I mean) and would have loved to be in rafas position.
And also this.Originally posted by scully View PostOh great - more historical revisionism. Yes, Rafa's winning the CL in his first season with us (especially with the dross we had back then) was awesome, but League-wise his first season with us was an atrocity that had us losing to the likes of Crystal Palace on a regular basis. Ditto his following seasons. This constant harking back to Rafa as a messiah truly is ****ing embarrassing.

I think Kenny's biggest mistake, and one that might be due to his long absence from the game, is his inability to properly evaluate the importance of athleticism. During Rafa's reign, we were never the quickest of teams, but the little pace we had was lost after Torres' departure and Gerrard's absence. Kenny has failed to address that.
We need to get stronger, quicker and bigger as well as have more flair.

I hope not.
Lucas-Adam doesnt work as a midfield two. Adam fades by the second half and Lucas is left to do it all by himself. Norwich and Swansea both were finding acres of space in the middle of the field by the second half of those games. And they're not even that strong there. If Adam plays a full game, it has to be with a midfield three.
With Gerard ahead that might be stronger but Im still unconvinced that shape would be disciplined enough in practice.
And, as I said somewhere else today, Enrique and Downing is not working. They both like to hug the left touchline, they both make the same runs so they're either getting in each other's way or they run to the same spot on the pitch so that the main option for whichever one of them has the ball is to play it to the other one who's now standing right beside him.
There are moments when they get it right but not often enough given how often we should be getting in behind teams on the left with too such wide players.
With time they might gel but Im not sure - neither of them seems really comfortable coming inside, which would be the obvious way to make space for the other.
Oh for us to have got Mata instead of Downing ... his movement and two-footedness would have worked great with Enrique IMO.
And as for the defence? Its been two 'lesser' teams but I think Skrtel-Agger has looked more solid than Carra has alongside Agger or Skretel over the last few months.

kenny like all great managers is stubborn but we wouldnt have it any other way. however, a great manager also knows that theres no point flogging a dead horse and at the moment things arent working.
having seen the strength of spurs and the resurgence of arsenal I dont think we'll finish in the top four. in fact I think we'll do well to finish in the top six because there are other teams there too.
for me its a question of fsgs desire. if things are still like this near xmas then they may have a decision to make. do they risk alienating the supporters by removing kenny from the hotseat and bringing in someone else to push for the top four or do we settle for yet another season of failure and risk losing suarez and reina in the summer.[B]Sir Isaac Newton knew the universal law of karma - any action has its equal and opposite reaction.[B]

Completely agree.Originally posted by Arn View PostThis is probably the most controversial thread I ever started and if fills me with a lot of pain starting it but it is simply what I believe.
Kenny isn't what we need. He won't be a success. Nothing to do with Rafa.
Kenny is simply not good enough. It was a gamble making him our manager and it is a gamble that backfired.
We need a new manager.
I knew the minute he allowed the board to pay £35m for a £5m player he was the wrong choice. His non-use of Bellamy and Maxi, his choice and timing of substitutions and the lack of ability to make a match changing managerial decision is the icing on the cake.
Shame it's all going to go sour and he'll tarnish his legend status unless he walks soon.

For me Adam isn't good enough to play in centre of midfield and dictate the game I'd go with:
---------------Reina--------------
Johnson---Skrtel--Agger----Enrique
----------Lucas--Gerrard----------
Kuyt-----------------------Bellamy
----------Carroll--Suarez----------
We need someone in the centre of the park who can dictate the play, Adam can't do that I think Gerrard has the ability to do this, the question is more about his discipline to play the role. Having a midfield that can dominate games would make a huge difference IMO.
I'd stick with Skrtel and Agger at the back as with those two we can play a higher line and push everyone else further up the field.
Carroll is winning alot of stuff in the air but no one is picking up the knock down which is why I'd have Bellamy and Kuyt in the wide areas as they are likely to get into the box and can hopefully get on the end of these knock downs. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

As many of us said at the time, we should have gone for the Sausage/Bender dream team. That's what we need..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.
