Even though Pep brought him to Bayern I'd be surprised, Sane, Sterling, Jesus, Moreno (loan), Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva for the width....?

Fergie wanted him bad at United years ago but he ended up at Shakthar and he doesn't seem to fit Chelsea's formation. London and Ars seems the place he might go - better than Walcott.

I see Douglas Costa unhappy at Bayern as he's not getting in regularly and wants a move to the prem, talk about your perfect player for what we want. Although without top 4 and offering big money there's not a snowballs chance in hell of him even considering us.

Quality player, him on one side and Mane on the other .... one can dream.

Who would you drop to fit him into the team? Just curious as I would rate Costa very highly.

Would Lallana get the bench and Coutinho take his central spot so that Costa can take the left flank?

Or would you drop a different player?

I was asking who from our current starters would Dan drop for Costa.

If it is just a case of adding positions then all we need is a clinical striker, a pacy winger, two quality midfielders, a quality centre back, a quality keeper and maybe a left back.

I think Coutinho (or someone else Brandt maybe) will ultimately take up the 8 position that Lallana is in and we'll have two wide players ala Mane, Costa would be good but out of our price range now.

Was a bit in jest, but I think that if we'd get someone like him in then we'd need to change our system, which is probably about to happen anyway, but we'd need to change so much. If we get a left winger in then we need a proper striker IMO, and then we are left with too many nr. 10's.

To me the bigger question becomes not who you take out but who would you actually leave in

If we had someone like Costa added to our current squad, then for me Costa and Mane both starting would be a no brainer. Both bring pace and ability, although probably a higher level of both comes with a guy like Costa.


Coutinho and Lallana would compete for the more advanced midfield slot.

Firmino, Sturridge and Origi would compete for the striker/centre forward slot.


Would not sort all our woes, but that injection of extra killer pace and skill would go a way towards easing them.


Much as I want improvement in a number of areas in the team, if I was forced to focus on only one area of the team and could only bring in one or two player for that area only, then midfield is where I would start upgrading. Improve our ability to defend and to tempo set in the centre and we would be a very different team almost straight away. I know you would love to see a dedicated DM or holding midfielder brought in, and I am not against that idea, but I do think that looking for a quality player that can playmake to a high level as well as being able to break up play/defend against counter attacks etc would be the way to go. Would cost serious money but the rewards could be huge.

Mane levels of quick

Have a feeling he might be quicker than Mane when going flat out and his acceleration is impressive too. He just seems to be able to find an extra gear or two at times when in a footrace against top level players.


Be a nice problem to have him and Mane in the same team and then trying to figure out who is faster.
