We are a lean, mean fighting machine...............with extra lean.

For me he was a decent player for us in the main, the occasional hiccup, but thats football
I'm surprised by that too. Although I'm not sure why. Anyway, I hate that thoughts of being stuck for a defender regardless of who it is. He can do a job for us.

On the other hand, Lovren can't stay fit for longer than a month or so without picking up some sort of niggle, and that's pretty useless especially when you're on 100k p/w.
It's almost as if VVD is being relied on for teaching and training up the apprentice centre backs. He will be as a matter of course but I wonder how he feels about the club not bringing someone in to take the pressure off him occasionally.

Good deal, but we should have gotten in a replacement earlier.

That aside, we've cut a lot from our wage bill recently. Dejan and Sturridge are at least 200k. Moreno and Mig gone as well, I reckon Adrian is on a lower wage than Mig was on, must be at least 300k. a week better off just there. Surely we are preparing for something big next summer with all this streamlining.

Lovren needs games to be good and he's not likely to get a run of games due to his place in the squad and the niggles he gets.

Getting money for a 30yo injury prone player who is on 100k makes financial sense although it does leave us light for CBs. Fabinho did OK there last year as emergency cover.

No way Berg or Hoever are ready though so we might get cover in January. No like Gomez and Matip are made of stone either.

On a more positive note it looks like we're scraping together the money for #Mbappe2020 :P

I think because of that start people keep forgetting he was actually pretty decent for most of the time here. Some heroic games, including the CL final which was unfortunately undone by Karius. If nothing else he always seemed to really care about the club.

    Good luck to him.

I think his value is also because of his wages. He's on £100k a week, or something like that.
    Agree with this.

I have also been thinking that part of the reason why we have managed to get VDB and also Harvey Elliott was on the basis that their progress would not be blocked by a full complement of senior players in their position.

In addition to be able to compete with the like of city we need to be smart, getting 15m and saving 5m in wages is about 8% of our total wage budget for the year.

I think maybe Klopp's thinking is that for Matip to sign fresh terms (his contract expires at the end of the season), he'd be guaranteed regular game time, since he'll be rotating with Gomez and VVD, while at the same time, throwing the gauntlet to Hoever and Van Den Berg et al, that there's a free spot in the squad to work toward.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but perhaps what's informing their thought process.
