I dont think it was, he did used to give away stupid free kicks, as you'd expect its an area he's improved with more experience. Its a good thing!! Not sure why its getting people all defensive. I guess some dont like that his best performances are coming under someone not called Rafa Benitez.

His decision making wasn't the greatest and he would concede some silly fouls in some very dangerous areas.

He cleaned up that part of his game now and he is much more mature and cautious in terms of defending around the box and he doesn't give away easy fouls any longer.

I see that some are making correlations between Lucas' form and his partnership with Mascherano or the departure of Benitez. I have always been a fan but always felt that when playing with Gerrard he became inhibited and chose the safest option, although my memory fails me, I believe that the few earlier game to which he did receive positive praise, Gerrard was absent from the starting line up. Similarly I get the feeling with Skrtel and Carragher.

Anyhow I'm glad that he finally being appreciated by all and the partnership with Adam is showing signs of potential.
