I totally agree bud, unfortunatly, its that time for Carra to step aside and let youth come in but, Carra would be a massive influence on whoever takes his place so, its critical that we keep him involved with the youngsters who would gain so much experience from the great man himself

no disrespect to carra because its obvious he has been a key figure for the club for years now but its blatantly obvious and has been for a year or so that his lack of pace causes him to give away silly fouls, its not a kneejerk reaction after stoke, its just a fact and i think kenny will realise this which is good because if there is anybody who can drop a lfc legend without it causing alot of tension within the team it is dalglish. Carragher has had a good career it would be a shame for that to be even partly blighted by a refusal to "let it go"

He was never really quick but he's slowed down even more and it shows.

I don't understand the call for the inclusion of Coates; the guy has just arrived to a new country, a new language, a new league and is yet to play a single minute of first team football for the club.

I think the centre of defence is not something you can swap, change or rotate - especially if we are going from the first four games of the season. Carragher's role is to defend, to stop the ball going in our net and to get in the way of the ball if it's going in the direction of the net. This, he does like no other player we have.

He's been a student of the game and has learnt his defensive game from the full back positions and listening to Houllier and Benitez. He's been instrumental in organising our defensive line for just under a decade and is one of the first names on the team sheet and forms the spine of our team.

Yes, he's lacking pace - it didn't affect Hyypia's game. Yes, he's prone to punting the ball long - but he's not in the team to be our spring board for attack - if we want the ball to be taken out of defence, give it to Agger. Carragher's job is to defend and defend he does.

I'd agree he needs to be replaced - but at the end of the season; give Coates a season to learn and some playing time in the Carling Cup and FA Cup (dependent on opposition), let's see first hand how good he is and then have a full pre-season to bed in a new central defender.

The difference between Hyypia and Carra is that Hyypia could get away being slow because of his excellent positional sense and excellent game intelligence.

Carra play with a lot of heart and passion. He really isn't great at anything but his heart and passion makes or made him to an excellent defensive defender.

The problem is that he is now so slow that it cost us points. He make big mistakes because he is slow. His big Liverpool heart isn't enough.

If we replace him with Coates then we may let in more goals the first three four months but after that we will most probably let in fewer than if Carra had played instead of Coates.

Replacing him as soon as possible is a must but when to do it is the big question.

That is the question Kenny need to solve.

Hyypia was a far more intelligent footballer. Thats why Carragher is being shown up so much, he just doesn't have Hyypia's talent.

He's been air swimming and grabbing at players for at least the last two years. Ok, so maybe Coates isn't the answer yet, but I think it may be time to phase him out and rely on Skrtel and Agger (so long as the man of glass doesn't break...)

Agger's injury issues and the lack of squad investment (until this season) has prolonged Carragher way longer than would normally have happened. He would have been long gone at Man Utd.

I've not seen the Stoke game because I'm away from home at the moment... But I'm under the impression that everybody is blaming the defeat on Carragher ?

He hugged a player in the box, hence the penalty.

I think this is all a slight over-reaction. Carra has a big part still to play for this season at least. He is part of a squad of 4 centrebacks, and I reckon he will make more appearences than any of the other three

Yep, as usual theres a massive overreaction though, he was poor but if it was Agger who made the mistake he'd be getting let off with "Walters fouled him first".

He's given away goals in successive games. A "rest" may well be a good idea. If we can drop the £35m man to the bench, then we can drop the out of form central defender. He's a far better squad option than Kyrgiakos though.

We didn't lose only because Carragher made a big mistake but it is part of the answer to why we lost. We should have scored a couple of goals and Suarez and Henderson made mistakes as big as the mistake by Carra when they missed sitters.

We can replace Carra and Henderson in the starting XI but we can't replace Suarez. If we couldn't replace Carra then we wouldn't say that it is time to replace him. Now we have the option to do it.
