I am not sure any of those were particularly highly rated or talked about being great, all had there limitations, We were right to get rid of Guthrie as we got money for him....same as hopefully Spearing.Originally posted by Charly View PostTo be fair, the last two great strikers to come through we had plenty of notice as to how good they were going to be.
Since then we have seen Lee Jones, John Miles, Jon Newby, Craig Lindfield, Neil Mellor (and my memory goes blank). All of them were talked up as being potentially good, and they all failed. Owen and Fowler were always marked as being top quality.
In fact, our acadamy has produced very little since its big money makeover. Warnock and Kelly? Could have kept hold of Guthrie and Hammil, both better than Spearing and Downing at any rate.
Hammill is a Championship Sub so maybe on a par with Downing now
I think our Academy would have produced more, if they were given more of an opportunity with the first team, Really hope that we start to see more of them on the subs bench over the coming months_____________________________________
Weak willed, Wank or do they have a masterplan?
Think we have the answer..Slot!!

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has ruled out sending young star Raheem Sterling on loan after impressing at the start of the season.
Sterling was outstanding for the Reds in his first Premier League start for the club in last weekend's draw with champions Manchester City.
It was initially thought Liverpool would consider loaning out Sterling this season so that he could get some valuable first-team experience under his belt, but the 17-year-old has quickly established himself in Rodgers' plans.
A number of clubs were thought to be keen on taking Sterling on loan, but Rodgers has now ruled out a move for the teenager as he wants him to continue his development at Anfield.
Development
"I've seen a lot of development in him in a short time because he takes on a lot of the concepts and he is very good with instructions," said Rodgers.
"Normally wingers want to do their own thing but he is tactically improving every day.
"I am certain over the next few years that he will develop into a very good footballer.
"We just have to make sure that we keep the pressure off him.
"He certainly won't be going on loan and I believe that if we can help and nurture him in the right way, then he will be a very good player for Liverpool."

True. But how cool in a Roy of the Rovers way would it be if Rodgers wins the league with Sterling, the German kid, Suso etcOriginally posted by Shaggy View PostI love him and his fearless attitude, he is a fantastic prospect but it's a **** situation that he's essentially a first team must pick at 17 years old.
Fell asleep on my new couch earlier and had that very dream. New couches
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

My only criticism would be that he hangs on to the ball a bit too long at times so his team mates don't know what he's going to do next. It's wonderful that he's got the confidence to do what he does & I can't wait for his first goal to go in so the floodgates can be opened.Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.
