Ok let's see how this pans out. I 100% agree that he plays his best football out wide but if we strengthen Man city by selling them Sterling and replace him with Milner in our starting XI, well then, wow, let's see...

I think that if we went back to wing backs next season that Milner could be really good in the RWB slot, and good enough to make the position his own for a few seasons.

I have always been more impressed with his wide play than when I have seen him in a more central role. It's not that I think he cannot do a job in the centre but rather that I would like to see us get someone even better playing in the centre and have Milner out wide in the same team.

If we got him and played him primarily in the centre I would not be as happy, but still not enough to be against signing him, as I think we need a bigger injection of quality in the centre than Milner would bring and let's be honest if he comes to us he will be doing so on the basis that he will get plenty of game time.
yeah completely agree that RWB role is made for him IMO. Great engine, decent defensively and a great crosser of the ball.

He is rarely injured from the look of his record, versatile, and a committed professional. If we were spending £15m on him I would be worried about priorities, but on a free for not entirely disproportionate wages in context? Absolutely.

Another way to look at it is that we could sell Sterling to City for silly money and get two first team ready players with that money along with having Milner come in.

Just for giggles say that we did sell Sterling to City for some inflated fee and we ended up with Nainggolan, Aubameyang, and Milner all in our starting XI on the opening day of the season. Would see a scenario like that as us having strengthened our starting XI.

The more I think about it the more I believe Milner will be signed as a cm and will be our only cm signing. I see Rodgers sticking to 3 in midfield and it'll consist of Milner, Henderson and Coutinho imo.

              Hope you are wrong tbh.

Milner, Henderson and Coutinho as a midfield trio would not inspire me with a great deal of confidence. Plenty of huff and puff but save for Coutinho very little invention and I suspect it would be a tad lacking in physicality

I hope I am but that's how I see it. I don't think we'll be going back to 3 at the back.

                  Excellent signing if it happens.

                    Milner + £25m player (if good) > Sterling ?

Don't see that myself. The one thing about last summer's business, flawed though it was, was that you can see the effort to address the positions we all knew were an issue. Left back, commanding CB, defensive mid, several strikers, more attacking mid options, it was almost all there just the choices were off. This summer with the departure of Gerrard and the issues we have obviously had to anyone with eyes at times in the middle of the park, I think we will look to make a significant signing there (and possibly sacrifice one of Lucas or Allen), although Milner might be used there at times too.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                    Mine angry and defrauded young?

100k a week over three years is 15 million thereabouts.

Not too bad in that context and would probably be worth that in English tax if we had to pay anything for Milner in the first place.

failsafe signing for me , Jordanho and Hamez supplying from the middle of the park to our new super striker and we will be firing on all cyclinders

We would probably have to stump up a decent signing on fee, probably a couple million, if we get him on a free similar to what we did when we got Joe Cole on a so called free.

Would make the deal cost around the 17 million mark, but then again what we will be saving by the leaving of Johnson alone would probably cover that or come very close to doing so.

I must be the only one on here that thinks Milner is ****e, typical English he always gives 100% player as they can't think of anything better to say about him. He's got the pace of Lambert and one of the most negative and boring footballers known to man. I rank him as another Downing in the **** stakes
