Henderson is proving more & more what a waste of a transfer Allen was. Nevermind the fee we paid but we have more than enough capable central midfielders so why waste the money on ALlen when other areas needed to be strengthened far more?
I've said this before, but here it is again. It's all my opinion.
Rodgers came in and expected us to play 433. He wanted Lucas long term in front of the back 4 in the Leon Britton role to control the play.
He had Gerrard down as the attacking midfielder bombing on and getting shed loads of goals and assists.
He wanted Allen to play in between as he did and excelled at Swansea.
Start of the season Lucas was injured. He dropped Allen in front of the back 4 as he knew the role. He became aware of Gerrard's lack of spark and a long with needing experience at the heart of the team, he dropped Gerrard into the Allen role.
Initially, Allen excelled in front of the back 4. Gerrard started okay. The furthest player forward tended to change, we struggled tbf in that position.
As the games piled up Allen began to tire and his performances dropped. Gerrard was being rested for the cup games and it showed. He went from strength to strength. His excellent performances in the Allen role meant he was to stay there.
When Lucas returned he was immediately placed in the controller role in front of the back 4. He wasn't on it right away, but has steadily improved as his fitness returned.
For a couple of games Rodgers tried Allen in the middle role and pushed Gerrard up. He even tried them alternating in bombing forward. But Gerrard didn't have the legs for it anymore and Allen wasn't able to stretch the play with long balls forward.
Lucas also lacked the long ball pass and so LFC stuttered with no one to spray a killer ball forward. Britton didn't excel at this ball, but he at least had it in his locker. The team failed to function.
So the team was set. Lucas as the deepest player, Gerrard ahead of him. One space left. Rodgers told us Allen would show us his attacking skills. He didn't. He failed to impress as the furthest player forward. His injury meant we never saw if he was capable of pushing on.
Is he a loss and a mistake? I'm not so sure. If nothing else he will be a good squad player. Injuries happen over a season and strong squad players are essential. Just like Henderson, Allen can fulfil that role.
Stop looking at the first XI. That alone will not win titles. Look at the bigger picture.

Does it not prove to you that we shouldn't judge players too negatively on first impressions? Henderson was getting the same grief off of supporters a year ago that Allen was getting back when he was playing.
Give Allen time to settle and get playing up to speed. Something tells me his opening 10 games or so were not a fluke.

We should have bought Keith Allen and have stomping & lording it in the middle of the pitch, he's probably more attack minded and skilly than Joe the Welf.
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
I think Henderson could play the holding midfield role. Technically he has the ability to move the ball on quickly and accurately. Tackling is probably a bit of an issue though. I like Henderson, he has ability and always puts in the effort
