However that would explain our rather 1 dimensional attacking play.
So you are saying I should remove 'Sabermetrics expert' from my CV then. Mathematics and football make pretty uncomfortable bedfellows.

Sabermetrics may involve some Maths, but it not a million miles from what I have mentioned. I can't help but feel that whilst it will work for a game such as baseball (and cricket) where the game is based around one sporting situation being continually repeated until a result is acheived. It will work less successfully in Football, a game with way more variables and as such I think Sabermetrics and Moneyball should never be deciding factors when it comes to assessing a players transfer suitability.

Stats have a place in football, visual analysis is wrought with problems and stats help balance that out. However they should not be as simple as your example, and sabermetrics isn't as simple as your example, it takes into account many more factors. (converted chances % for example).

Stats are as common as hell in US sports so they are far more comfortable with them in that context, we are terrified of them for some reason.

Haha - yeah I know its more complex (it was a joke of sorts) I guess perhaps a happy medium between the 2 needs to be achieved.

I think the whole sabermetrics thing has been at the bottom of all this.

Basically they (DomCom, KD and FSG) have obviously thought.

Carroll + Statistically Accurate Crosser = Goal Frenzy.

Its real back of a fag packet stuff, and when you consider the money behind the transfers it has been a massive balls up. I agree with you on the fact that whilst Henderson may come good, we cannot afford to slip further behind whilst we find out Slip much further back and we will be looking at a relegation battle.
to be honest i thought Carroll would be great with us, not so much Downing & Hendo but i did think Carroll would be a good buy.

I dunno mate that Fulham match was the first match i have turned off since i've been watching LFC, i'm just getting to the stage where i'm acruall ynot expecting us to win, and not only that to lose without even so much as a whimper. Depressing times

i think people look at hendersons price tag and think that he should be the next incarnation of steven gerrard.

thats just not going to happen. he aint gerrard and never will be. he needs others to be the main man around him because he sees his job to keep things moving and allowing the other players to play.

he isnt going to dribble past anyone, neither is he going to smash them in from 35 yards. he will move the ball to the players whos job it is to create opportunities and score goals.

good attacking players will love playing with henderson because nine times out of ten he will pass the ball. he wont take selfish option and look for personal glory he will always think of the team first.

he cannot be compared to gerrard, lampard or fabregas. hes not a playmaker but just a facilitator.

instead think ronnie whelan, xabi alonso, michael carrick, mikel and the like. not spectacular and never will be but he's always one of the first names on the teamsheet because he links the defence to midfield well and he does most of his work when we dont have the ball.

we need to get off this lads back because he will be a player for us.

I agree that we should probably get off his back and I agree to some extent that he might come could and nail himself on the team sheet. But we massively overpaid for him, and his price tag, along with downings, is the thing that pisses of most fans when you think about where else that money could have been spent. It's a management problem rather a problem of his mediocrity

Once we took Jay off I thought he played ok. We dominated the last 30, and was part of that once we fixed the formation. Needs to sort out his shooting. He'll come good - nowhere near the worst player in the team today.

I hope we sell him very soon.

                          Sorry...

Woeful player. The only professional footballer who has made it purely because of his kick up skills

Still young. Played better alongside Stevie. He needs a stronger presence alongside him.

Calling him a whimp etc is a ****ing disgrace.
                              Are we winning?

If we had played the whole game like we did the last 30 who knows. Henderson wasn't as bad as Spearing or Enrique or Downing.
