I think that young players need good experienced players around them to half them through the tough times and I don't think we have enough of that at the moment. Adam is dire and Spearing is still young himself.

What are Jordan Henderson's strengths ? Serious question. I'll make a list of qualities that a professional footballer could have and you're all welcome to select the ones which you think Henderson has....

      Pace
      Positive passing
      Creativity
      Goal threat
      Vision
      Movement
      Positioning
      Tackling
      Defensive ability
      Aerial ability
      Leadership
      Stamina
      Physical strength
      Composure
      Mentality

He has stamina and I suppose you could say he has movement if your definition of movement is aimlessly running around the pitch.....

Well, for me those listed in bold he has; he has a great ability to see a quick ball and plays some very intelligent passes, he makes some great runs from the centre of the park and has only really looked poor when shoved out on the right (Which he has done to the best of his ability, so it shows an ability to hold a position). He's looked timid when in the centre and we're up against it, but that could be age, pressure and being at a new club.

I think he has the ability to 'nick' the ball, when tracking a run - but yes - I don't think we'll ever see him clatter in to someone. I'm also confident that a winning mentality and compsure will develop with time and when he feels more comfortable, he'll be able to put his clean striking of the ball to use further up the pitch.

I think he has a great future at this club.

Positive passing - You are either having a laugh, a superfan or mentally ill. He's the most unimaginative, basic, spineless passer of the ball I've seen in a red shirt for a while.

Goal threat - He's started close to every game this season and has 1 goal.

Creativity - 2 assists all season.

          Vision - Oh lord.

Movement - Aimlessly running around the pitch trying to convince the boss that you're actually doing something is not what I meant with this category.

You're right about the stamina part though I'll give you that, the lad can run for 94 minutes non stop, he isn't particulary good at that football lark but the lad can run.

Henderson is an exceptionally gifted football player. He is very un English like in the qualities that he has. He looks more like a la liga player than a premiership one.

For me, his touch, vision and passing set him apart. What let's him down is the authoritive & cocky nature to trust in his own ability a bit more.

When I mentioned his mentality I meant that he is a grounded individual who will work tirelessley on the training ground and won't be seen In a pub at ridiculous times.

For me, he'll end up a far more cultured player than Gerrard, but will never be the type who will slam into challenges and grab a game by the scruff of the neck that way.

If I had to compare him to any premiership player, I'd go with Luka Modric. But he's obviously got a lot to learn.
            Forwards.......

Henderson doesnt provide enough (or any) real impact right now and isnt good enough to be starting week in, week out. I wouldnt write him off completely because we've got the best example available of what can happen if you have a bit of patience, in Lucas.

As of the here and now though, Henderson should be a backup option to players of real quality. The problem is such players dont play for LFC.

For me just those 2 listed though I would say that he is also decent passer (I like that he usually doesn't need to control the ball first to pass it) and has a good touch.

Imo not enough quality at this point in his career to warrant 22 starts and 4 sub appearances this season..

judge henderson after hes played 20 games in central midfield. hes not a right sided player and whenever hes moved inside hes looked very good.

he has all the tools to his game, passing with both feet, stamina, great vision and he keeps things simple. he will go on and be a terrific player for us.

I am far more worried about andy carroll and charlie adam. even downings been putting in a shift recently.

Although he might need more than 20 games.

I'd like to see him given a chance in the centre in place of Adam. Adam has had some very poor games.

I don't think I'm any of those three. If you wanted to have a go at Henderson, I could have understood your view if you'd raised points about his lack of goals, how he was less than firm in the challenge and asked why games seemed to pass him by. But to see your biggest gripe is his passing (which is "the most unimaginative, basic, spineless passer of the ball I've seen in a red shirt for a while.") makes me think you like to vent your spleen after a defeat and blitz the players involved in said defeat.

For me, I think those comments are best in 'post match' threads and the individual player threads are for looking objectively at that player, regardless of results, but rather looking at his performances. Because, if you'd looked at his performances, his passing has been excellent; there have been instances of him showing superb vision, clever passes and incisive balls, as well as being an excellent cog in some quick triangles we have used when we've looked to break - I've questioned whether he has the range in this thread, but I'd be happy to say I haven't seen enough of him at Sunderland (or the U21 tournament) to see if he has that in his locker.

You mention the goal and assist column and I think whilst he can (or should) be chipping in with more goals and assists, it's not as if we have been firing on all cylinders as a team and Henderson is the only one not contributing - we've been misfiring as a unit all season.

Your comments about vision, movement and stamina aren't really backed up by anything constructive, but to say he isn't particular good at this football lark is just plain wrong and DannyMan2006's post says what I would want to say here.

This should have happened a few months ago, Adam has been ****e since he signed, I would love to know what he does different in training to warrant a starting spot.

Stevie's re-occurring health problems, inability to replace Raul in time and Lucas' early end of the season injury made our midfield options very limited and allowed both Henderson and Adam to play much more than they should this season.
