By no means always injured, but to say his injury record is very good is being kind. He’s missed almost a third of our league games over the last 2 seasons through injury. The worry is that’s not going to improve as he gets into his 30s.

I’m all for having heads like Milner and Henderson around, but I don’t think that it should be necessary for them to continue to be among the top tier earners as they enter the phase of their careers when their playing time naturally recedes.

Agree Milner is a freak, no doubt about that! However, I think Henderson also takes care of himself extremely well and assuming injuries don't impact him too much I think he will age pretty well. We'll see.

I honestly don't see a problem with Henderson's injury record. Not everyone is Luis Suarez.

Just as I’ve said, missing roughly 30% of games is not great, especially if that continues to deteriorate.

Milner has played half the league minutes or fewer for the last 4 seasons. More like 1/4 in the last 2. It’s big wages for a squad player.

It’s more about how much they’re likely to be playing in the final years of that contract, if someone else if offering them more money and that’s more important to them, then good luck to them.

Letting him know he is wanted and rewarding that is more motivating and likely to result in better morale for all those concerned than the doubt of having a valuable player and your captain entering into the final two years of his contract. Throw in the press and we’d have two years of Klopp fielding questions on Hendos future. An new deal with, crucially, the option of a 1 year extension removes all of that - and the negativity it brings with it.

Ultimately, Klopp wanted it and I’m happy he got his way. That’s the most important thing imo.

Bob Paisley always said sell your players when their legs ha d gone and Fergie did the same. I’m all for Hendo staying but not as a super expensive cheer leader - he can still more than contribute now but let’s see next year and the one after

I guess I'm just missing the part where his legs have gone? I've not seen any evidence of that. People seem to treat him like he's 35 already. He had one bad injury last season, assuming he's over that his injury record isn't that bad at all. If he was 34 and we were offering him this contract I'd get the reaction, but he's still only 31 and on balance I think it's the right call.

It goes against how united dominated the league for years and that was to bomb them out after a contract or two.
