Better from him. Stood up to that big cunt well. Don't think young Can did him any favours tonight either. He must have thought Lovren was back at times in the first half.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Our defenders are clearly fairly **** or BR hasn't organised them properly or maybe a mixture of the two.

However I thought they did ok ish tonight whereas when some of the midfielders had to do some defending from crosses and corners they were utterly woeful. I say they but it was really Henderson that caught my eye.

On three separate occasions the ball was going to land on top of his head if he'd jumped even a matter of centimeters but he stayed rooted to the spot a la Mignolet and let one of the AFCW players win it instead.

I'm not sure if this shows a lack of confidence in his own game or some sort of over confidence that one of the defenders will come and help him out. Either way it contributed to some of the panicky moments in our box including their goal.

Personally, I think that our personnel in defense are okay. Not world beaters. But okay. Put it this way - our defenders are probably better defenders individually than Southamptons. Yet Southampton have only conceded 15 goals in the league all season - against LFCs 27.

For me, there are a number of problems:

        1. The goalkeeper is dodgy under crosses. But to be honest so are the whole defense.
        2. We have not had a settled back 4 since Brendan arrived at the club.
        3. Our midfield is amazing when we are attacking. But often does very little defensively when we are on the back foot. Opposition often seem to have a free run at our defense.

For me, a lot of these issues are related to the manager and his tactics. This was fine last year when we were scoring goals for fun and we all enjoyed the ride. It was like Keegan's Newcastle in '96 but with even better attackers. And if Brendan is going to be one of those managers that goes gung ho in every game, then he should be judged on the goals his teams score. We have only scored more than 2 goals in 5 or 6 games this season, have drawn 8 blanks in front of goal and in 9 games have only scored one goal. That is just as ****e as our defensive ****-ups. People will rightly say about Sturridge and Suarez not being in the team but in reality, he has spent big money......so he will be judged on the players he puts out. I think Lovren has proved to be a car crash of a signing but Balotelli and Lambert combined have equally been a disaster - at the same cost as Lovren. (i think Balotelli should be kept as he would possibly be good with a proper strike partner...ie: Sturridge, plus we're gonna get feck all in the transfer market for him anyway)

If we remember back when Kenny got the bullet, Steve Clarke was kept on initially. FSG thought he was a good guy and seemed to like him - possibly on the recommendation of Kenny himself as well.

However, Brendan Rodgers wanted to bring his own team, didn't want a DOF and didn't want Clarke there either. He wanted total control. Maybe he was right to ask for that as he wanted to be his own man but i can't help but think the team would be a lot better now if SC was looking after the defensive unit......

Mind you, the ones that tried to create that impression were awfully quiet when Can was being woeful and even quieter in the second half.
another good game & **** all recognition. Credit where credit is due the same as criticism where criticism is due. He is starting to look much more dangerous in the opposition box from set pieces over the last 4 or 5 games, that's been missing from his game this season.

I really like Can but he was pretty terrible last night.

To be fair though, Dan. Not being the worst defender in our defence is hardly a badge of honour.

And I thought he was ok last night... But then I'd expect any of them to be when up against some ****house league one-ers. It's a massive letdown that they weren't.

Yeah apart from being bullied all night, losing headers for their 2 main chances (apart from the goal) and crying on the floor for 5 minutes while we're defending for our lives in the box only to get up and play on (what a surprise) he did alright I guess.

If that is acceptable performance in the eyes of fans from our main centre back against a league 2 side then god help us.

Grow some hair, have a skin graft to cover up the tattoo's and everyone would (rightly) accuse him of being a soft arse

you can't question his commitment to the cause but I just don't fancy him to win battles against the top attacking players.

I know mate the defence has been a nightmare alright.

I have no problem with people not liking a certain players, it happens in any fan base. But he did have another good game. The people slagging him off constantly, just can't seem to show a bit of class and just say he done well. I don't get that attitude.

Skrtel has his issues no doubts but also his good points. If he plays **** then i'll say he played **** & if he plays well then i'll say he plays well..same goes for any LFC player.

For me there has to be a bit of balance, credit where credit is due just the same as criticism where it's due.

I didn't think he was his usual car crash self. But then he was playing against players from 2 leagues down so you'd expect him to be better. He was ok. He didn't totally Mignolet the place up but equally he wasn't outstanding either and playing marginally better against Wimbledon doesn't remove 2 years of calamatous antics

Yep. Apologies for the crap picture quality but got to laugh at the posts about how "solid" and "good" he was. He nearly cost us two goals in the first half through complete ineptitude but because they were too **** to finish we'll pretend he was rock solid? Imnoravintha. Best compliment you can give him was he improved second half and thats about it. No wonder we'll concede 50 league goals again if thats what's defined as a quality centre half performance.

His comical first attempt to close someone down that lead to them being put through on goal at a tight angle.

2nd one. The usual long ball that catches him out. Jumps with their guy, unsurprisingly doesnt get it, they end up through and put it wide.

Is he the only one at fault in these instances? No. But was he "solid" and "good"? No.

But probably the most comical thing in this thread now is Perkins calling for people to show some class towards players!! ****ing hell, the hypocrisy.
                          "Johnson you prick"

                          "Glen you ******"

                          "****ing Johnson you cunt"

Thats that class we gotta show ladies and gents!

I slowly played back the moment Mig missed the cross - under some pressure to be fair though that's still no excuse.

I swear the ball went into an area where Skrtel was standing. Where was Skrtel? He decided to drop 2 yards back on to the goal line for no reason, despite Lucas(?) already being there.

I initially blamed Sakho for switching off but in hindsight I think Sakho was not expecting Mig and then Skrt's not being able to deal with a routine bit of defensive play. Saying that Sakho could stay switched on a bit more, that would help, la.
                              One tit for another.
