    Im not saying he wasn't to blame but the initial pass from Gerrard allowed that situation to take place.

    I've always thought Skrtel wasn't of the standard we need I honestly think we just need someone at the back that can organise

      I agree he's poor at defending. Basically he's a pussy. But if he can score 6 goals a season from set pieces, you keep him in. Who else can you bring in these days that is a leader? There are very few decent defenders in the world these days. Mostly he's good, but he has complete brain lapses. Goals from set pieces are so valuable. Over a season they can be worth their weight in gold. Terrys goals have papered over his defensive frailities for years. Football is all arse about face.

        His goals are useful I will give you that but a defender needs to be able to defend first and foremost.

        We need a leader at the back, perhaps Sakho can be that guy but I'm not sure

          Sakho will never be a leader, ever.

          There aren't many out there. Kompany is but his defensive form is nowhere near what it once was.

            He's not a pussy, he's just rash and has no organisational skills whatsoever. He's nowhere near as bad as some on here make out. If people think that Toure and Sahko are going to be the partnership that clicks and saves us... then they really are desperate. We've got serious problems back there.

            To be fair to Terry he has been a fantastic CB, he may be a cunt but he was a top class CB who also got some vital goals from set pieces. I cant stand the bloke but I wish we had some leadership quality like that.

              I'm not a big fan. Seems to be a crucial mistake every game without fail. 7 out of 10 defender.

                It's blatantly obvious it's his fault for their 1st goal, gets caught ball watching, no awareness of Debuchy (he was marking him from the original ball in as well) and week as piss for the header.

                Bellamy is talking bollocks for the 2nd goal, Toure is beyond the near post, Skrtel is all over the place positionally and Giroud is Skrtel's man.
                If Sakho comes across as Bellamy said we have all 3 centre backs in front of our near post, which is just bonkers, Sakho is protecting the middle of the 6 yard box and has Welbeck coming in behind him.

                It's not difficult to fathom, Skrtel is appalling.

                  For not a big fan that is generous.

                  Personally I think we need 2 new CB's. Skrtel is not good enough and Lovren has been a disaster.

                  I would keep Sakho and get someone else in to play with him another as cover or rotation.

                      Exactly this. Arsenal got in behind the winger which they were always going to do at some point. But on that occasion, Giroud should not be free.

                        Great goal, but he could've prevented both of Arsenals today.

                        But then, for the first: Toure can see Skrtel is leaving Debuchy unmarked, he could've covered.

                        For the second, Sakho also marked nobody. They're all useless. Knowing when to mark the space and when to mark the man shouldn't be rocket science.

                            Haven't seen the game or teh incident, was sleeping and am now working, so can only speak theoeretically.

                            However, surely that's why our defence is in such a mess?

                            Everyone is minding what everyone else is doing instead of trusting them to do their jobs and we're leaving holes all over the place?

                            And the reason Kolo has been doing so well, he's just going in there and doing his own job.

                            They have to have awareness of each other to a degree of course to hold a line, but it's just become a silly mess.

                                Its a no win situation, Sakho tries to cover for Traore/Skrtel and just proceeds in bumping into them leaving us open. The worse thing for a defender is not knowing whether to cover for his partner or trust him. It should ALWAYS be the latter.
