Same here. Just sign Kyriakos Papadopoulos from Schalke.

That kid will be better than Skrtel in a year or two max and he is only 20.

Personally I think this is negoatiating tactics by his agent and Martin to get the improved contract but if we are unwilling to come close and/or unwilling period I think he'll leave.

If that happens we should not let him go for less than 20m as he is top, top CB in PL.

Agger and Skrtel are great friends off the pitch too.. That kind of stuff can't be forced, that's part of the reason they are so good together IMO.

Personally I don't trust us, based on past years to replace either Agger or Skrtel so I wouldn't want us to sell at all.. As Mos says Kyriakos Papadopolous looks the business but would we go for him? Or end up with someone like Scott Dann

Was it Zenit we signed him from in the first place? Wont lose too much sleep if he goes back there for £20m.

Yeah he was with Zenit for quite a few years I think before joining us.

            Ta, thought so.

Hopefully we'll have a City Zenit bidding war and we sell him to the Ruskies even if they're a couple of roubles less than the Mancs.

Ah I dunno man. I don't want him to go.

R-9-F made a good point above about him and Agger bringing out the best in eachother. I think we'd struggle to replace Skrtel.

I say keep. Done with flogging our best players every single ****ing window.

Agree, but he's not been consistently good for the time he's been with us albeit he was excellent last season and not too shabby the previous one.

It's just I'd rather have a fat wad of cash and a player who wants to turn out for us rather than one who doesn't.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers determined not to lose Martin Skrtel
Brendan Rodgers is determined to resist any attempt to lure Martin Skrtel from Liverpool, insisting there have been no bids for the defender.

Skrtel suggested in an interview last week he has received several offers to leave. That is news to Rodgers.
Liverpool hope to conclude negotiations on a new deal with the 27 year-old and are bemused by suggestions there has been any breakdown in those conversations.
The club expects talks to continue in the coming weeks.
Skrtel featured in the opening game of Rodgers’ reign in Canada on Saturday, a low-key 1-1 draw with Toronto, and the Liverpool manager said he would fight to keep his centre-back.
Asked if there had been offers for the defender, Rodgers said: “No. I’ve heard nothing from any other club. Martin has been fantastic and seems happy and contented. He fits into my plans and ideas. I will fight as hard as I can to keep the players that I want here and he is one of them.

“Unfortunately there is always that rumour, speculation and gossip and until the window closes that will continue.”

It had seemed Skrtel would be remaining on Merseyside until the comments published in an interview in his own country.

I agree Rich. All the words coming out of his camp suggest he wants out but waiting for the club to say it so he wont lose the remainder of his pay packet.
If he asks for a transfer then the club don't have to pay him.
If he want out then sell the fukcer we dont need uncommited players inspite of what Rodgers says(wants to keep him and all that lark).

Martin Skrtel is poised to end speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Liverpool. The Slovakian defender had been a target for several European clubs but is set to follow Luis Suarez and extend his current deal, which has two years remaining.

I've got no problem at all rewarding existing players with better contracts when they've had a great couple of seasons. Where our owners have demonstrated a bit of naivety is by signing inferior players on contracts that eclipse ones that are already established here. I'd imagine that all last season's signings bar Adam were signed up on higher wages than Skrtel and Agger. It's hardly surprising they got itchy feet

I'm not sure Henderson & Enrique are on more than Skrtel & Agger are

Downing and Carroll quite possibly but I'm not convinced of the others
