I think loans are savvy for us, an insurance policy where, if things don't pan out on our prospects, we have the opportunity to get them back with their wages off the books while we decide. For me, a loan is sign of control, but I understand supporters want to sell. Looks like we're spending without selling too many, so who cares in the end?"Our legacy begets an excellence that surpasses the particulars of who produces it." -- David Carr

Where are the bids then? It's easy to say oh they're really good it should be easy to sell them but it's never that simple. Pretty much all the rich clubs are happy with their keepers so Reina's options are limited straight off, then we're left with loads of clubs who either dont want him, cant afford him or he wont join. Similar with Skrtel who's hardly an elite centre back.Originally posted by Daffy Duck View PostARE WE ****IN INSANE???
That's potentially £25m in transfer fees that we're just letting go to Napoli for a whole year, meanwhile we're in serious need of rebuilding the squad IMMEDIATELY. We better be loaded.
And by the way, this is all a daily mirror rumour.

And if he doesn't regain his form, we'll be stuck with a 29 year old defender on the decline. At best, his value will stick or rise marginally.Originally posted by spider-neil View PostIf Skrtel regains his form we can bring him back or at least command a higher fee. I don't know what the problem is.
That's looking at it from a pessimistic point of view.

This Skrtel business, it's all about wage value again isn't it? New 4 year contract last year £70k a week. Now, not worthy of a place amongst such luminaries as Andre Wisdom, Martin Kelly and Seb Coates. Nothing to do with the 3 further years at £70k a week obviously. Skrtel's replacement definitely won't get that much. This is ****ing mental.

No way is Skrtel worth £70k/week currently. Average defender, who is often overrated on here due to one good season, and was poor last year. Do people really think if there were clubs prepared to pay £15m for him (or anything like that) we would be considering a move like this? Not that we likely are, seeing as its from the Daily Mirror.I could not dig, I dared not rob:

Providing we have certain clauses involved I don't think it's a bad idea.
1. We have a purchase clause based on performance/appearances etc.
2. We can automatically call him back at ANY time if we get an injury that would leave us short of cover.
If BR doesn't see him in his long term plans then I've not got a problem with him being loaned, but we have to buy a replacement who is better.
