I think loans are savvy for us, an insurance policy where, if things don't pan out on our prospects, we have the opportunity to get them back with their wages off the books while we decide. And if he doesn't regain his form, we'll be stuck with a 29 year old defender on the decline. At best, his value will stick or rise marginally.

No way is Skrtel worth £70k/week currently. Average defender, who is often overrated on here due to one good season, and was poor last year. Do people really think if there were clubs prepared to pay £15m for him (or anything like that) we would be considering a move like this? Not that we likely are, seeing as its from the Daily Mirror.

Providing we have certain clauses involved I don't think it's a bad idea.

1. We have a purchase clause based on performance/appearances etc.

2. We can automatically call him back at ANY time if we get an injury that would leave us short of cover.


If BR doesn't see him in his long term plans then I've not got a problem with him being loaned, but we have to buy a replacement who is better.
