He isnt a bad defender though. He was player of the year in 2011/12 for us. I just dont think he gets Rodgers system, which then leads to horrendous mistakes.

I think he was very good that season, but for me he's a bit of a headless chicken. Positionally he gets caught out, pretty similar to Agger, which is why they both struggle together. He's just been over-hyped for me. Many will probably disagree thoughOriginally posted by Alex View PostHe isnt a bad defender though. He was player of the year in 2011/12 for us. Skrtel is a decent defender with the right guy next to him, he's not a leader or take charge type of player and needs to be marshalled a lot IMO we need better.
He was the POTY a few seasons ago for us but in a team where a lot of players either weren't good enough or vastly under performed.

After 6 months out of the team and now seemingly behind Widsom in the pecking order, I’d expect much worse than that Mr M.Originally posted by MrMichael View PostThat would be great, if it were true
Just from a 10 second google...
Not that there is a huge amount wrong with those (although doubting he was being told the truth rather than accepting his form hadn't been good enough in the Feb ones wasn't great), but I wouldn't say he's kept his mouth shut completely. He just hasn't been a great big baby like Suarez.
Perhaps why they didn’t register first time with me.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Average defender that for all his tattoos, skin head & being 6ft 3 inches got absolutely bullied and dominated by most big men playing upfront against us. Never got how such a tall guy could be so bad in the air.
By no means the worst & did have one good season.. but very rash & prone to too many mistakes.

It’s irrelevant how everyone else performed. Individually he had a very good season with some excellent performances and collectively he was part of a strong defence that only two teams conceded less than us. Yes, if our attackers had of performed better he may not have won POTY, but it wouldn’t have changed his level of performance which was still very high that year.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

As has Gerrard for many a year, but it doesn't take away from his performaces.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostOf course it matters, we were poor the entire season as we're most of the players therefore the level needed to be seen as the best on the pitch is lowered.
Effectively he was the best player in a bad side
And teh best player in a bad side can still be better than the best player in a good side.
It's an argument I see all the time on here, but don't quite get.If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Liverpool's Martin Skrtel has confirmed that he has strained knee ligaments but hopes to be back in training this week.Originally posted by Fernandinho View PostFound it very weird that he didn't really feature at all during pre season. Is he injured?
Skrtel has not been released by the Reds to participate in Slovakia's international friendly against Romania on Wednesday because of the injury.
The centre-back explained: "The MRI scan confirmed that I have pulled ligaments in my left knee.
"It is nothing serious but when I want to put full weight on the knee or I kick the ball, it hurts a lot.
"I believe that I will resume training in the next few days."
When asked by the Slovakian media as to why he failed to report for international duty, Skrtel added: "We discussed the possibility of me at least going to watch the lads play.
"I was for this option, but Liverpool were against it. They didn't want me to give two days of possible treatment away like that."
Skrtel has been linked with a potential move away from Anfield but he insists is only focused on his fitness.
"Anything is possible," he explained. "There are alternatives, but the current priority for me is to be healthy again."
There has been a lot written about interest from Napoli but Skrtel denies that for the present, adding: "So far the manager of Napoli, Rafael Benitez, has not called me."(Sky Sports)Last edited by Bender; 13-08-13, 06:10 PM.

Napoli’s new coach Rafa Benitez is keen to bring in some familiar faces as he prepares to embark on his first season with the Partenopei.
After signing Pepe Reina on loan from Liverpool, he has asked the Azzurri to turn their attention’s to Skrtel.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli have an agreement with Skrtel but he will have to wait until next week for the Partenopei to negotiate a deal with the Reds.
Moving to Napoli would unite Skrtel with Partenopei playmaker Marek Hamsik, as the duo are both firm fixtures with the Slovakian national team.
The defender has played 206 matches for Liverpool and scored nine goals since his move from Zenit St. Petersburg in 2008.
