Another dominating performance. He can do a bit of everything: head; tackle; block shots; cover runs; and step out of defence with the ball. Pretty good touch and more often than not looks to play the ball rather than launch it long; he made a few cushioned interceptions today where he just laid the ball calmly to a team mate to initiate an attack - this is what we want to see, intelligent, composed play at the back.

At the risk of unleashing a ****storm did anyone else think Skrtel was lucky not to get a red for his challenge on Bale in the second half, in the current 'all tackling is banned' climate? I think he only got the benefit of the doubt because of Bale's previous diabolical cheating (his blatant dive when Agger came to challenge him) but the TV pictures suggested Skittles had raked his shin
