At every point in this season, when the games have mattered (and indeed, whether we like to say it or not, last season too), the team, the squad and the tactics have come up short.

2 semi finals, 1 at Wembley
Failed Champions League qualification from a relatively easy group
Treating Real Madrid games like a wide eyed lower league team enjoying their days out against the big boys (****ing embarrassing)
The run in for a Champions League place when we were up against a shaky Manchester United and a City side that fell apart when Yaya Toure was away at the ANC.

Everything has come up short this season. FFS, they've just come off the back of conceding 9 goals against Crystal Palace and ****ing Stoke. Not Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
You could argue the pressure on Rodgers to turn it around at that point was greater than at the start of the season. A slow start was always batted back with having sold the World's best player. Come December, there were question marks about his position. He took a massive gamble to completely change the shape and was even bold enough to go live with it at Old Trafford.

However, I do agree we've fallen extremely short when it matters. As you've said, Manchester United at home, Aston Villa at Wembley. These were the games that we needed to stand up and Rodgers got it tactically wrong (especially Villa) and not a single player turned up. Is this part and parcel of our investment in youth (inexperienced) or does Rodgers have to shoulder some of the blame? I think it's mainly the latter, but I do want to see what Rodgers can achieve with the right blend of players.

Yeah, I'm not defending our start. August to December was bad; December to March was much improved; March to May was pretty horrendous.

Even one of Rodgers' closest media allie's doesn't sound totally convinced (James Pearce).

Liverpool FC insist Brendan Rodgers’ position is not under immediate threat as the club prepare to launch a review into their disastrous season.

A crestfallen Rodgers admitted his job was on the line after the Reds were humiliated in Sunday’s 6-1 defeat to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

However, sources close to Fenway Sports Group have played down speculation that the Northern Irishman will be sacked following the Reds’ sixth placed finish.

Rodgers, who is only 12 months into a four-year contract, looks set to given the opportunity to convince the owners that he can turn things around after a disastrous two months that saw Liverpool take just eight points out of the last 27 on offer.

Much will depend on the outcome of the review which will be spearheaded by FSG president Mike Gordon. Rodgers will certainly have some uncomfortable questions to answer after the Reds fell a long way short of achieving their target of Champions League qualification.

A similar review resulted in the sacking of Kenny Dalglish three years ago and it remains to be seen whether Rodgers suffers the same fate,

Most of the first-team squad flew to Dubai in the wake of Liverpool’s mauling at the hands of Stoke. The trip had been planned for a number of weeks as a send-off for departing captain Steven Gerrard.

Rodgers, who never intended to join them in the Middle East, has remained behind. He is scheduled to attend the League Managers Association annual awards dinner at Old Billingsgate in London on Tuesday night.

The 42-year-old will reflect on what a difference a year makes. At the 2014 event he was crowned Manager of the Year by his peers after overseeing a thrilling title challenge which saw Liverpool narrowly miss out on the Premier League title.

Twelve months on he’s fighting for his future as FSG consider their options.

I tend to agree with some of what Heaton says.

The easiest thing in the World would be for FSG to release a statement saying that Rodgers only signed a new contract 12 months ago, and they have no intention of changing manager now. He's their man, we've had a bad season but they intend to stick by him. If they are briefing the press without releasing official statements it does smack of testing the water, or buying time.

My take on it is either they are undecided, or he's gone. No way has it been decided he is staying.

They may decide that, but no way have they decided that yet.

So going by Pearce's article fsg did in fact brief the media that Rodgers position isn't under threat. It all comes down to the meeting. He's probably going to end up staying.
