I know that the top 4 has been mentioned/assumed as the definition of success or failure but I am not convinced that failure to make the top 4 would necessarily see Rodgers sacked - I'm guessing that this isn't a popular view but I don't think it is so black and white.Originally posted by RichC View PostI'd be surprised if he's not been given some pretty clear cut performance expectations from FSG, no idea what they'll be but you'd think they big one will be a top 4 finish.
Moyes if I remember correctly was removed when that was mathematically unobtainable, not out of the realms of possibility there'd be something similar.
Originally posted by RichC View PostI do find the talk of removal of our manager after one defeat in a season pretty distasteful though, has the feel of something more akin to the Chelsea or Evertons of this world.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Well we'll see. This is a forum for discussion about our football club, I don't think you're mental just because we disagree.Originally posted by chadrtc View PostBecause he lost one game and there is literally no chance of it happening... no matter how much some may want it. The same as last season when every week people were speculating he'd get the sack.
I just want us to make progress. There should be some noticeable development. I'm bored with this discussion now I'm just repeating myself.

Possibly, if the **** were to really hit the fan... which it hasn't yet. But I suspect for him to go before Xmas would take a truly horrific sequence of results, as opposed to the half decent start we've made to date.Originally posted by Vermilion View PostI think it's possible he could be sacked sooner than people think if results become inconsistent, main reason i say that is the availability of Klopp.
But that's quite different from him getting the boot now.Cult Member. Nazi puncher.

I think you might be right, as I said it was a guess from me I'd think they' want us to be challenging for a top 4 finish until the end though even if we just miss out.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostI know that the top 4 has been mentioned/assumed as the definition of success or failure but I am not convinced that failure to make the top 4 would necessarily see Rodgers sacked - I'm guessing that this isn't a popular view but I don't think it is so black and white.

I would be willing to bet a considerable sum of money that Rodgers is still our manager for the next game.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostWell we'll see. This is a forum for discussion about our football club, I don't think you're mental just because we disagree.

clyne-----skrtel----sahko----gomez
-----------lucas------Can------------
----------milner-----henderson------
-----------Origi------Benteke--------
I'd go with this. Without coutinho we're not going to have much penetration. UTD also like to attack. We pretty much suck at attack so instead I'd completely go for a counter attack style. Invite them in, use the back 4 to hold their line with Can and Henderson closing down players when they get close in attack, Lucas there as added backup. This will allow milner to dirft a little forward and Origi out to the side a little for when we get the ball and smash it up for a quick dash forwards.
When we have the ball now and then Can is free to do a little rampaging run through the middle like he enjoys doing, this then can turn into a 4 midfield attack with Lucas hanging back. Don't bother with sticking Benteke on his own up front because all UTD need to do is get 2 players on him and thats our attack useless, giving them plenty of players to charge up. Origi will be closer to him and help spread their defence a little, which could be very useful if milner or henderson does a run through to disrupt things. Don't attack. Defend, frustrate, counter attack.
If it goes to **** then take Can or Lucas off, toss on Firmino. Take off origi, put on Ings, and Gomez for Moreno. Unless Sakho is having issues then move gomez into the middle.Last edited by vlahka; 30-08-15, 01:52 PM.

I don't see that happening to be honest, IIRC attendences didn't really drop under Hodgson, and those days were dire, at least this side is inconsistent and has some quality, they might be crap in one or two games but there is still a chance that they can turn it on in the next. The Hodgson side were just constantly dross.Originally posted by Rich View PostIf he fully loses the home support and attendances start to drop then he'll be gone. Sure he has targets but I could see him sacked by Christmas. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Who said anything about him losing his job before the next game? That is very unlikely. We're going into a tough run of games under immense pressure and low on confidence. I don't think we'll get anything at Old Trafford. We have two games per week until mid November including away matches at Everton, Chelsea and Spurs. Will Rodgers play our first eleven in the European games? Our run in the CL doesn't give me any confidence that he'll take the Europa League seriously. I'm just speculating about what may happen, but in my opinion Rodgers doesn't have much leeway with the supporters.Originally posted by chadrtc View PostI would be willing to bet a considerable sum of money that Rodgers is still our manager for the next game.
