What role was Lucas playing yesterday? It wasn't the regular DM role he usually plays, he seemed to be playing much further forward (before the red card) as the space between the midfield and the back four was fairly large yesterday. I can only assume he was told to play that way as it didn't seem to be his natural role and he looked fairly uncomfortable and like he didn't know what he should be doing which is unusual for him.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

William CarvalhoOriginally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostMaybe. But when it looked like old knackered legs Lucas was off everyone went ape. Yet Lucas played yesterday and at stoke and at Arsenal last year when we got smacked.
I'm all for getting an athletic holding midfielder in but they don't exactly grow on trees.
Probably too late now Rafa allegedly wants him (and he knows a thing or two about buying DMs)He’s here! I *know* he’s here! That’s him, I’m telling you that’s him! You hear me? I’m telling you it’s *Keyser Soze*!

Gomez & Clyne where pushed up too, aswell as Lucas. All 3 seemed very uncomfortable with it. Same thing again flip flopping with tactics and formation and not playing to players strengths.

You have to get one or both out of the side, otherwise you end up building your side around your ****test player. Protection from the fullback so he doesn't get dragged wide, protection in front to minimize the amount of work he has to do and so he doesn't have to come forward. Before you know it you have 3 other players covering for his lack of ability and you lose them in other areas of the pitch i.e. you have no creativity because you need 3 people to do one man's job. All of which you don't need if you played someone who could do the job in the first place.Originally posted by Keyser Soze View Post
Dumb and dumber at the back need protection because:
1. They are stupid
2. Weak in strength/Get bullied
3. Slow
We've needed a strong powerful holding midfielder for years but he feels we don't need one. Why did Lovren look good at Southampton - Schneiderlin and Wanyama.
He either signs one or he bins the two plonkers off.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

The fact they scored so early seemed to mess up any tactics Rodgers may have employed. They sat back and let Dumb,Dumber and Lucas have the ball but pressed the others. Which meant Lucas was trying to create.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostWhat role was Lucas playing yesterday? The large gaps was as they hit on the break the two berks because they're as slow as snails always dropped back (actually i tell a lie if there was a running back race Skrtel would probably win).
As soon as they scored and with our record of getting results from a losing position we should have known the outcome. He’s here! I *know* he’s here! That’s him, I’m telling you that’s him! You hear me? I’m telling you it’s *Keyser Soze*!

Even when we have gone behind early previously we have tended to keep Lucas or the DM deep and push other players forward, leave a bigger gap between him and the rest of midfield or push the full backs a few yards further forward, the role he was playing yesterday wasn't a Lucas role, it would have been better with someone else playing it IMO (and I'm a big fan of Lucas)Originally posted by Keyser Soze View PostThe fact they scored so early seemed to mess up any tactics Rodgers may have employed. The only reason why Lovren will be played vs United instead of Sakho... is that Sakho is nowhere near match fit. Even then I'd probaly still play Sakho. Not a hope in the world would I play Lallana. Sure Lallana is injured at moment & his fitness is questionable in general... never mind after an injury.
IMO Van Gaal has United solid and workmanlike, they do press very well to be fair. That's what I worry about, we do seem to struggle vs teams that press us high.

As many other have said we were 2-0 down i fully expected Lucas to be sacrificed for a forward instead another defender was bought on and this made matters far worse as now nobody had the foggiest as to what they were doing.Originally posted by Exiled_red View PostEven when we have gone behind early previously we have tended to keep Lucas or the DM deep and push other players forward, leave a bigger gap between him and the rest of midfield or push the full backs a few yards further forward, the role he was playing yesterday wasn't a Lucas role, it would have been better with someone else playing it IMO (and I'm a big fan of Lucas)He’s here! For teams to score against us is quite easy, they don't need a genius moment they just need to pressurise Laurel and Hardy and i guarantee you they will make a mistake and we will concede. He’s here!
