    My thoughts exactly

5 years ago, Liverpool were ranked 11th in Europe. Today after spending over £350 million, they are 42nd.

Will Rodgers play our first eleven in the European games? Our run in the CL doesn't give me any confidence that he'll take the Europa League seriously. I'm just speculating about what may happen, but in my opinion Rodgers doesn't have much leeway with the supporters.

I think we can be fairly confident that he will play a weakened side in the Europa League group stages, the extent to which I think may vary, i.e. I wouldn't be too surprised to see some first team players in the odd game particularly at home (when they don't have to travel), because the focus at the moment has to be on the league. I think that it is likely we will make close to 11 changes between the team that starts in the league and the team that starts in Europe as we have a fairly strong second 11 that we could put out and many of them need game time.

The West Ham game is not a disaster for Rodgers but it is a wake up call. He's had many before and taken us on winning runs before injuries, etc, have curtailed them. However, he certainly has no money in the bank to continue with Lovren. If he hasn't woken up after this game then I think FSG will and he'll be on the road to replacement.

The midfield has been sub par for many years and still is, shocking negligence by the most important position in a team by the club.

What does this actually mean? The midfield 2, 3, 4?

In Henderson, Milner and Coutinho, you have a decent three for starters.

I think Rodgers is missing a certain ruthlessness and win-at-all-costs mentality. It's not a pleasant characteristic. It's what makes the likes of Ferguson and Mourinho so dislikeable. It's what's part of Rafa's obsessiveness. It's the air of madness around Kopp and others like him and the relentlessness of Guardiola. Instead Rodgers has this apparent commitment to bull**** at all costs.

                          He certainly doesn't lack hubris.

A central midfield pairing which for some reason we undervalue the importance, 'decent' midfielders won't cut it at the top end. This are of the field has been a sharp decline in quality for us since the days of Alonso and Mash, not to mention Hamann.

Coutinho is not a central midfielder he plays off the main striker(s), Henderson and/or Milner are very far from being described as top class centre mids. For where we want to be or expect to be we need far better central midfielders than Milner and Henderson.

For years I keep on reading about the need for world class strikers and defenders but the central midfield importance is forever overlooked and our fans seem comfortable with the mediocrity that we have there, amazing.

IMO, I just don't think he's at that high level standard.

If fenway really rated Jürgen klopp he would be our manager now. If you look at their record in baseball they are not shy in firing managers and bringing new ones in quickly if things aren't working.

They like klopp but maybe they don't like him enough.
