Yeah not a chance will he be ditched anytime soon.

I don't think anyone expects him to get the sack after Saturday.

The concern is all of the issues which lead us to doubt him returned yesterday. With avengance. Basically we lost the game in the first half, down to ****e defending, and despite the millions we have spent on the team we didn't have enough to find a way out of it. No attacking intent whatsoever...

Rodgers needs a big win soon to stop the doubts lingering. Because the problem isn't that we lost yesterday - it was the comprehensive manner of it, and the familiarity of it. It was a performance where it feels like only a matter of time until he gets the boot - it's just going to be painful watching us get there. Because the issues we have are basics, which we have not solved in 4 seasons now.

The Utd game is a big one. We need to play well and we need to avoid a heavy defeat.

yeah it does seems all too familiar. The same personnel mistakes time and time again & the same tactical confusion. For me it is the lack of any sort of balance in the team that is most disturbing. Why the **** has it not been sorted!? How much money & how much time does it take to get it right? United away is an absolutely massive game for Rodgers.

I believe the post asking if this break is a chance for Rodgers to plead his case or FSG to make a change is exactly that but anyway.

The doubts haven't "returned" they've never left. He was rightly or wrongly kept on in the Summer and it seems in some eyes we could get a top 4 finish this season and it still wouldn't be enough, the perceived errors or mistakes would be highlighted every time points were dropped and that's peoples prerogatives; we talk about performances when we win and get the 3 points which whilst haven't been sparkling are what it's all about - look at the Mancs for this, play badly get the points.

A good win and and going on a good run isn't going to be good enough for those that have made their mind up with Rodgers which again is fair enough it's up to them. for me he really has to produce the results this season and either make the top or be a gnats pube from getting there to get another season.

I mean I imagine there's a fair few on here that would want him gone even if we manage a top 4 finish and a good cup run.

For me, if Rodgers is going to be a success this season he needs to find a way of getting both the defence and attacking side of our games working together at the same time, he's had success with both elements but in isolation when the defence works we can't get the attacking side of things working and vice versa. Not sure if he can do it or not but either he manages it and gets what's required or he doesn't and we're looking for a new manager.

Personally with the defenders we have its never going to be out strong point. I want all out attack. I enjoyed our run and think we could do it again. Just start banging in two a game, gives you half a chance of winning.

Is it possible that his approach leads to over confidence, and then consequently to loss of confidence?

At least with Klopp you can be sure that's what he would see as the best chance to succeed. Rodgers seems confused, he talks about control but his teams don't really have any because that type of approach starts with the defence and builds forward - ie Rafa Benitez style.

He was at his best when he just let a talented attack get on with it and that's why I suspect Rodgers is going to live or die by how Sturridge plays when he gets back. If he is actually fixed and fires them in him he'll survive. If the team still isn't scoring he'll be gone cos he can't structure a side to win 1-0 (without some luck).

That's an interesting point, massive ricks do seem to happen after he's praised a player or two.

I've felt with our team for a number of seasons stretching back past Rodgers that we can be over confident turn up and pick up the 3 points and that's just not the case.

The thing with Rodgers that I don't get is how he can be so hit and miss with his tactics. What we did for the Arsenal game was exactly what we needed to do, the comment before the game about dominating space showed than he had obviously thought about and developed a system to play for that game, and it worked very well at least for the first half, as Shaggy mentioned last season the switch to 3 at the back seemed to be what we needed and again it worked well. The problem is that in other games such as yesterday there seemed to be no plan whatsoever, why is that, how did he get it so wrong, West Ham played the same way that they did against Arsenal, we must have watched the game between those two in preparation for our games against both clubs so why did it seem to come as a surprise the way West Ham played?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Yup it's a funny one. I don't think being 1 down inside 5 minutes helped us but there is the case he flip flops from being bang on to being way off what's needed. West Ham did their homework on how to defend against us and we lacked both men in the box and the ability with the final ball.

I sort of feel the 4-3-3 we're setting up with doesn't get the most out of players, both Coutinho and Firmino are looking to do the same things and leaving Benteke isolated up top. I said in another thread perhaps the enforced loss of Coutinho might help us as we've no choice but to change things around a bit - up to BR to get those changes right though

                            I don't think 4-3-3 suits us either. I'd be looking at a 4-4-2 diamond.

Which means that either Henderson or milner will sit at the base or be split wide. Won't happen. Milner came to play centrally.
