That is my concern, it obviously isn't Rodgers strength so you feel we need to bring in a coach / assistant who can do bring that in.

I don't know alot about O'Driscoll but he seems to be someone with experience of working with youth players which could be useful for developing youngsters, but that probably makes him relatively inexperienced at dealing with big egos etc. So if we bring this guy in the other appointment would hopefully be someone who can organise a defence and has a fair bit of experience working with big name players / big egos.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Bit pissed off with this tbh, compared to the rumour we might get Paco back, this is a big big let down for me.

Was hoping for some type of coup, an assistant manager with real experience, someone who's been involved in things Brendan hasn't yet achieved.

A coup? It's an assistant ffs, how much of a coup can you get?

We need a coup of the sweet trolley and biscuit tin too, they're woefully inadequate, not enough branded goodies!

Me too, IMO it is really important for managers, in any business, to surround themselves with the right people so he's hopefully good but I would have liked to see more big club experience.

I think this shows that Rodgers sacked Marsh and Pascoe, he's getting his own man again, which is maybe for the best seeing they work together, and he'll have experience of Pepijn.
                * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

oh come on, the way people are talking about the staff we may as well not appoint any, they're obviously not important at all! Makes you wonder why we bother hiring and firing these people that are no more important to the club than sweet trollies!. Lets just get the Diddy men in eh, bound not to make any difference at all

                    Rodgers and O'Driscoll!

                    Brendan and Sean!

The Liverpool manager and his assistant are called Brendan and Sean! We'll have Jimmy Milner, Ingsy, Bob O'Firmin, Ray Sterling and Joey Ibe! We need moustaches next. Liverpool haven't won a league title without a moustache since the 60's. Its all coming back.

That's nonsense. Brian Kidd has a win percentage as a manager of less than 30%, yet he's widely regarded as an excellent coach and one of the best assistants in the business.

They bet Leeds 4-1 and some of the football was a delight, but then the turmoil at Forest meant the owners sacked him before he really had a chance to get going. He was also of the opinion that the owners are still trying to rectify this mistake. He thinks he will complement Rodgers quite well.
Yes - they were a point off the play offs having just beaten Leeds United 4-2 on boxing day when he was sacked. They've not really been any better off since, despite spending a load of money and going through a few managers. They played good football under O'Driscoll and most Forest fans still have a good opinion of him.

Of course, a **** win percentage as a manager doesn't automatically mean he's a good assistant. And there is definitely merit in the idea that we could use someone with more experience of European football on the coaching staff. Criticising his appointment along those lines is fair enough. I'd probably have preferred a pako or Meulensteen type with European experience myself.

But slating O'Driscoll based on his win percentage as a manager, or a single tetchy interview on youtube as I've seen plenty doing on twitter, is embarrassing. The overwhelming majority of us have never met or worked with him, and have absolutely no idea what his abilities are on the coaching field, or what his roles and responsibilities will be at Liverpool, or what he's like in the dressing room with the players and other staff. Same as we had no real idea what Pascoe did other than wear shorts and hold a clipboard. With backroom staff you never really know what they are doing apart from the odd time when a player or manager will single one of them out for particular praise in an interview. As such, I find it hard to get either too excited or disappointed by O'Driscoll's appointment.

We'd have all liked a strong figure with a winners background in as assistant but realistically I think it was very unlikely Brendan would hang around while we appointed somebody who could possibly be seen by him as a threat to his own position. In the end we got another man Brendan knows and trusts and is unlikely to be after his job but it won't make much difference, if we don't hit the ground running they won't be long in getting sacked.

Then again I thought they'd be sacked in the summer so the owners clearly have other ideas.

I'm neither excited nor outraged by his appointment itself.

I'm writing about the melodrama and nonsense being used to try and criticise him.

Just like FSG were considering Paco etc - its spin

If they do appoint someone it will be to appease us fans.

I'm disappointed with Driscoll, but to be fair assistant managers are rarely well known and or successful managers in their own right.
