He's not likely to tell everyone he's ****!

If he keeps his job, and I hope he does, he's going to do well next season.

Ayestaran and Meulensteen were probably names released to satisfy us as fans. Now the club will put out a whole load of PR to big up O'Driscoll.

Has Rodgers learnt how to cope with European and domestic competition? Maybe Pep will contribute toward that since he is the hotshot around the club. O'Driscoll is a very strong character, but I hope he doesn't pander to Brendan.

Yeah sound. He'll come out and tell everybody he's great when he isn't rather than just kit mention his staff at all, that makes sense.

I hope he does well too, it's not about him it's about the club doing well. Pascoe may well have been a problem but he most certainly was not THE problem. He didn't pick mad teams, change formation loads of times in games and keep picking underperformed players out of position.

Been chatting to a Nottingham Forest fan this morning and he was of the opinion that O'Driscoll seemed to be the start of something good for Forest. He introduced some good quality passing football on the back of a short pre-season and in interviews, the players seemed to respect him too. They bet Leeds 4-1 and some of the football was a delight, but then the turmoil at Forest meant the owners sacked him before he really had a chance to get going. He was also of the opinion that the owners are still trying to rectify this mistake. He thinks he will complement Rodgers quite well.

Several posters including myself have pointed it out in Brendan's first year itself as a cause for concern. Of course, the doubts subsided in the second year and reared its head in the third year when we stumbled our way out of Europe.

When Pascoe and Marsh were relieved of their duties, some of us expected the replacement to be someone with top level experience. By appointing O'Driscoll we seem to have gone down the same route. We may not be able to quantify the impact of O'Driscoll or Pascoe or Marsh on each individual game but across a longer time frame maybe the reason we are not winning anything and our underperformance in Europe is because we dont have the necessary experience in the coaching setup. And until Brendan and his team actually wins trophies, it will continue to be a cause for concern and I see nothing wrong in that being discussed here.

Maybe this "having the experience of winning", "knowing how to win" is all bull**** and it does not matter.
fwiw, i have no problem with it being discussed and fair enough if someone believes this lack of experience has been a factor in team performances but i think its a soft excuse and not one to get particuarly passionate about.

The players performances have simply not been good enough, the manager takes a portion of the criticism too but he isn't inexperienced despite his young age, because he wasn't a player he has more than 20 years coaching experience already. hypothetically speaking i don't believe last season would have been any different if you had Zinedine Zidane as assistant manager and few are more respected than him in the world of football.

this argument of lack of experience at the top level amongst the coaching staff is given too much weight.

Looks like we're still persisting with 'great coaching wins out in the end' philosophy. This bloke has barely appeared on my radar so I can't comment on him at all but I'm concerned that he has zero big game management experience.

              Oh well.

I never thought an ex-Crawley Town manager would become assistant manager at Liverpool. Let's get John Gregory in too whilst we're at it

I totally agree. But this kind of chat is viewed as negative not realistic apparently. Just being really chuffed no matter whom we bring in to the club is the mark of a good supporter these days.

It would be good if one of our management team had some experience, for example Bdawg struggles with the 2 games in a weekend I don't see Odriscoll assisting in the areas here Beeendan has shown weakness.

                  Hope not, but can't say I'm excited/inspired.

As long as the new guy (O'Driscoll or whoever) shares the same vision as Rodgers, thus ensuring they're both pulling in the same direction, and has a skill set that complements Rodgers, then game on.

Links to former players and assistant managers are typical of fans clinging on to the coat-tails of former glory. It's not an informed opinion a few are up in arms over; Rodgers has worked with the guy, he's chosen somebody who he thinks will benefit him and the club. Because, let's face it, Rodgers knows he's on thin-ice so I doubt he will very much want to get this appointment wrong.

Bascombe said in his piece that we're still considering appointing a former player with coaching ambitions.

I think that is the key (alongside the willingness to challenge Rodgers and bring a slightly different perspective). One thing I don't obviously see in the two coaches we look to be turning to is experience setting up a solid defense.

be chuffed, don't be chuffed. The choice of assistant manager doesn't make a team nor does it break a team. It's not about making a 'statement of ambition or intent'

It really doesn't matter because he won't be here long. He'll leave when Rodgers is sacked which will probably be in November sometime.
