I wonder if Rodgers plays him centrally as he's the only suitable option.Originally posted by Tee View PostWould not surprise me in the slightest if Luis starting to become prolific once we bring in another proven goalscorer.
One plus point under Rodgers is that he's sorted out the wings. I don't see us needing to buy a wide player for a good few years, what with Sterling, Suso & Assaidi. Add Suarez to the mix if we buy a top class central striker & a one time problem area becomes a strength.
Whilst a lot of the players in the team are more potential stars as opposed to top class now, the only real issues with the team are at Striker and LB.
If in January we went a signed a top class striker, LB & a specialist DM, I'd say Rodgers has changed an average squad into a top class one that can compete for the title in 2-3 years time.Forwards.......

i have mentioned this before. with a front three, we need the wide players to come inside more and become three strikers.Originally posted by Rich View PostI thought Strachan made a salient point yesterday.
He compared LFC's tactics with Germany's and that the national team's two attacking wide players are generally comfortable at moving inside when the ball is on the other wing. While our two wide attackers are more out and out wingers which means they're less inclined to move into the box.
if the play is coming down the left wing, for example, then the wide right player needs to read this and drift inside to cover the back post area at the edge of the goal area, ready to pick up shot chances or to put the rebound back into the goalmouth.
come on brendan
removing all the weak links makes us stronger
too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

I think we could challenge sooner IF we sign top class players in those areas. Unfortunately we need another CHAD spend like the Summer of 2011 to make that happen.Originally posted by DannyMan2006 View PostI wonder if Rodgers plays him centrally as he's the only suitable option.

I'm not sure there was much more he could have done in the summer with the apparent budget that was available.Originally posted by dww View PostHis signings have done well but I still think his failure to sort either of our long term squad problems (cover for Lucas and a goalscorer) has to be a worry. He's made a lot of progress though and deserves time and IMO praise for the progress in imposing his style achieved so far.
Carroll going out on loan was it seems yet another bit of mismanagement by the club with not getting a replacement in but if he really was just going to be sitting on the bench we were probably right to farm him out.

I think we could have signed a DM for the Assaidi fee and the Borini transfer is a question mark at the minute. Obviously both those players could be great for us but for me they represent choices that Rodgers made that I think are questionable. Obviously those decisions might have been made with the idea that more funds would be available after the Carroll saga was over. I'm genuinely undecided about how good/bad the transfer dealings were - not attempting to attack Rodgers more explain why I'm reserving judgement.Originally posted by rcasemore View PostI'm not sure there was much more he could have done in the summer with the apparent budget that was available.

He did fairly well with the funds that he had at his disposal but Borini, who I think has the potential to be a good player, is not a type of striker that we really needed.
Cover for Lucas has been an issue for us last year as well as we failed to properly address it this year once again.
Luis himself said that he doesn't expect that he can be that prolific in PL because PL is much stronger than Eredivisie and coz he said that everything went in while he was playing with Ajax, which he think would not happen again.Originally posted by Assassin View PostHe was prolific with Huntelaar they scored 50 between them in 33 games for AjaxMember #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club

To be fair, he probably hoped that Lucas would stay fit and if he picked up a few niggles then Allen would cover. If he had of signed a DM and Lucas didn't pick another bad injury then I'm sure a lot of us would have questioned the value in that when clearly there were other areas that needed strengthened.Originally posted by Mostar View Post

We needed wide players and a striker. We signed two central midfielders in the summer.
That gives us: Gerrard, Allen, Sahin, Shelvey, Henderson & Lucas.
I think bodies wise, we needed players up top more. Assaidi & Borini for the fees we paid was great value in the long term.
I would only have questioned the signing of Borini had it meant we'd have no funds left to purchase another striker. But by all accounts that was not the case. Had we signed a top striker then Borini would have been coming of the bench and been introduced gradually.Forwards.......

Valid point but imo it was always a big question if and how ready Lucas would have been after the serious knee injury.Originally posted by RedReet View PostTo be fair, he probably hoped that Lucas would stay fit and if he picked up a few niggles then Allen would cover. Granted his budget was very small to address all areas and you are right that he decided to take the risk with Lucas and unfortunately it backfired.Member #1 of the Luis Suarez fan club
