we all know the form isnt good enough, but the pattern of play has improved.
realistically we will not finish in front of manure, city, chavs or arsenal. maybe even newcastle, spurs and everton will finish above us
we hope for eighth or better...

i know it will take time. i just wish that every time i see brendan speaking on tv he didnt remind me of the football manager version of david brent
he is in danger of becoming a parody of a football manager.
maybe my name is written on one of those three pieces of paper

too many gutless players, no beef or desire. pussies everywhere... sack them all.

It boils down to whether the pretty football becomes pretty football which ultimately wins games.

Jury is out on Rodgers and I think our performance in the January transfer window will decide his fate. If he is backed, brings in a couple of attackers and we still fluff our lines in front of goal then the writing is on the wall IMO.

However, I think supporters need to remain positive that things are progressing nicely in many areas and it is *just* the lack of firepower which is hindering progress.

I have a nagging doubt about our manager - I think he's possibily a bull****ter who has managed to pull off the incredible by convincing a big club he's the man. But time will tell and I hope I'm provided wrong.

Jan is obviously very important, but unless we end up right near the bottom of the league I don't think his position will be at risk, not for a couple of years.

I think that's at least 50% of the qualifications possessed by most successful football managers.

I hope he is backed in the transfer window and am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt until then. He seems to say what we all know - we need a number of new players.

If he's not backed, I'll start to ask questions as to what FSG's long term plans are here. Am all for "monetising the brand", but it's important that money is reinvested. They are probably still feeling a bit sensitive after KK's disastrous outlays, but the personnel issue still needs to be addressed. There's a tv windfall due at the end of this season - it will be interesting to see how much of that will be made available.

Perhaps I'm misreading your context, but that is a slight contradiction there.

I do, however, think it's baffling that some people think we've had no progress just because we aren't higher up the league table. It's a very myopic viewpoint, seeing as our performances have been holistically GOOD. The suggestion that we're on the same trajectory we were on when Hodgson was manager just doesn't make sense. At all. There are so many factors, mitigating ones at that, which explain why results haven't gone our way or why we're not doing better than we currently are. Everything from our owners letting the manager down in the transfer market to completely and utterly inept referee decisions to attempting to overhaul a squad containing several bit-part players on enormous wages to the inexperience of youth.

It's just frustrating, that's all. People are already moaning. Yes, it's November. Yes, we've had 2 wins in 10 league games which sounds like a damning statistic but considering only one of the three losses was actually a poor performance, it clearly merits more consideration.

I hate to see some becoming impatient already. I've been impressed with most of Rodgers's tactical decisions and many of his team selections, how he's gained the support of the senior players, and how he handles the press. Rafa was our manager what seems like ages ago now. For now Rodgers is our gaffer and he's a massive step-up from Hodgson and Kenny, albeit a smaller one for the latter.

Anyway whatever. I feel like saying these things falls on deaf ears most of the time, but I just wanted to get that off my chest.

The play seems a lot of nice little passes and ermmm that's it. Our defence appears to have gone backwards.I think by Xmas we will know where we are as a club and wether the manager is upto the task. Lets hope for a good run over the next 4 or 5 games,if they are,as I expect littered with defeats and draws the pressure will be well and truly on.

Ten games is enough to assess where we're heading and I accept that we are doing some things better, but we don't really seem to be making any/much progress.
As I've said before, I'm not yet completely convinced by BR and will reserve judgement until the end of the season, but I disgaree with both of you here. We are generally playing teams off the pitch. The results aren't there right now, and of course it's more than a little frustrating, but if you can't see that progress is being made as the season progresses, then I'm wondering what you are watching.

Look at the team that is out on the pitch. Typically 3 teenagers in every game. Then look at the journeymen brought in by the previous regimes. To have played as well as we generally have, individual mistakes notwithstanding, is pretty encouraging.
            Oh I don't know.

I think he is doing a brilliant job. Yes he should be under pressure because of the demands of the job, but that does not mean we should be calling for his head already. The points do not reflect what we have deserved so far this season and even if we finish 10th this year I think for the long term we will only benefit and succeed under BR.

Despite our results I actually enjoy watching us play and really look forward to the games. First time n a few years I have felt like this and his faith and trust in the younger players is just nothing short of inspiring. He has my backing 100%!!!!

Would you prefer to start with Downing and Cole in every game instead?

It's not ideal, playing the kids every week, but what choice is there?

we are where we are in the league for one glaring obvious reason - a lack of a goal scorer. suarez has picked up the mantle with 7 in 9 (i think) but far tooo often he is out wide to create and there is no one with a real killer instinct in the middle to convert (see shelvey and his 3 dreadful finishes yesterday).

BR has got us dominating games (the arsenal game excluded) and creating a hatful of scoring opportunities (i beleive suarez has created more chances from open play than anyone else in the prem this season) and if we had bought smart in the summer and purchased a goal scorer a la defoe / bent we would be top 4 for sure.

if we get the funds to buy in the next window and we get our striker then there will be no excuses for not finishing close to top 4 by end of season.

so far, BR has donea great job and there are real signs of improvement (he's even got brad jones looking like a keeper!!!) and i'm full of confidence for next season.

If people can't see the improvement in our playing style under BR compared to Hodgson and Dalglish last season then I'm staggered.

We have an incredibly thin squad, we're playing two, three or four kids every week. Our rightback who is also one of our best players is injured, our only holding midfielder has missed the entire season (barring a couple of minutes) and we've probably only played badly in a couple of games (WBA, Arsenal).

We've had some ****ty decisions go against us, we've missed easy chances and we've made individual errors that have cost us points. That'll change. Hopefully.

The signs are encouraging, if we can add a couple of forwards in January then we'll be okay.

Agree with Kenneth too - unless we have a right disaster and get relegated or something then Rodgers needs at least three seasons and decent backing. Cautiously optimistic still.

The thing is, FSG have to be more than encouraged by what they have seen so far. So, I really hope they will give him the backing in the January transfer window. With a prolific goalscorer and a couple more quality players to strengthen the squad (LB and another attacking player) I see no reason why we cannot mount a late push for fourth.

We are going to succeed under BR. The speed at which we succeed will ultimately be down to FSG. Back him and we can be genuine contenders as soon as next season IMO.

One thing I am sure of, is that deep down at the back of my mind I have a nagging feeling that we should have gone for Rafa. That's not a slight against BR, it is an acknoledgement that I would have preferred the experience, pedigree and sheer connection to the place that Rafa would have brought, compared to the relative novice we do have.

I also realise that it would have probably ultimately a massively divisive appointment.
