I agree our recruitment seems muddled, but could that not be due to the manager's lack of clear tactical strategy? The committee isn't why we change formation constantly, play Lovren over Sakho, Markovic as a wing back or Ings out wide. I've always supported Rodgers but he lost me when despite doing all our business early n the summer we started the season with no cohesive plan or pattern of play at all.

We have a good squad, not great or perfect but good enough to be far better than what we've been getting. The buck for that stops with the manger.

It has baffled me how we've played against United and West Ham and the performances on the pitch is his sole responsibility.
      Are we winning?

Tony Barrett article in Saturdays Times indicating a certain "estrangement" between Rodgers and FSG, neither believes the other is doing enough according to him.

If that's the case and the two parties feel that they can't work together, then surely there must at least be a conversation about a separation

If that's the case then bye Brendan. The thing is slightly worrying is the link to the Italian Hodgson today . Total madness if FSG thought he was their man.

Read he said there's 'no chance' he'll leave. At this rate I don't think it's because he thinks he'll turn it round. That unwarranted ego doesn't believe it, he knows we all know he's a naked emperor . Holding out for the pay day.

Getting trolled by Sherwood now FFS!

Tim Sherwood insists Liverpool are lucky to have under-fire manager Brendan Rodgers - and he could have managed Real Madrid.

The Aston Villa chief has defended Rodgers amid growing pressure on the Anfield boss following their poor start.

Villa go to Merseyside on Saturday looking to pile the misery on Rodgers who has seen his side earn just eight points from six games to sit seven points off the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Rodgers took Liverpool to second in the league in 2014 and has vowed to fight for his Anfield future with the club denying Carlo Ancelotti had been approached about the possibility of taking over while Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the job.

Sherwood, though, believes Rodgers remains a top manager.

He said: "After that season they finished second, if they'd won the league could they have kept hold of Brendan Rodgers?

"They would have tried everything - and they did, he signed a new contract after that.

"All of a sudden he doesn't turn into a bad manager, it's fine margins. We might have seen him at Real Madrid.

"Why wouldn't we have seen him there? He'd have won the English Premier League with a team who hasn't won it for God knows how many years. He would have been the hottest property in football. A week is a long time in this game, let alone a year. Because they got so close it intensifies the pressure. He's paying the price for overachieving a couple of seasons ago.

"It's harder to be a manager now than 20 years ago with social media and faceless people have their opinions. There's more pundits than players."

Christian Benteke has been denied a reunion with Villa for the first time since leaving in a £32.5million move in the summer with a hamstring injury and Sherwood, who has Idrissa Gueye (hamstring) available again, admitted Villa would not have let the Belgium striker go if he did not have a release clause.

He added: "There wouldn't have been a price the club would have taken if the clause wasn't there. The clause was in there from previously and everyone looked at it and thought it was good money. I always knew that call was going to come."

Rodgers said: “No, no. No chance. I want to be a manager and the target in my own mind is to get to 1,000 games.

“I know that over the course of that, you’re looking at 20 odd years. I’m realistic enough to know that I might have another five or six jobs in order to do that.

                        That is pure Hodgson.

I can only hope Brendan said it with that Irish twinkle in his eye, because if you showed me that quote out of context, I'd swear it was that old fool.

Brendan Rodgers: I know Liverpool could axe me

Brendan Rodgers insists that he will respect the decision of the Liverpool owners should they opt to replace him as manager, but he has ruled out resigning despite the mounting pressure he is facing.

In a frank assessment of his situation, Rodgers accepted that recent poor results have made his position vulnerable despite retaining confidence in his ability to revive Liverpool and regain the backing of supporters who have turned against him.

Rodgers was also relaxed about Carlo Ancelotti and Jürgen Klopp being linked with the job, even though their availability is likely to make them an even more attractive proposition to Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the club’s owner, should Liverpool fail to defeat Aston Villa at Anfield today.

Tellingly, Rodgers repeated an assertion that he made last season, saying he had proved himself capable of delivering during the previous campaign when he had “the tools” to work with, the clear inference being that he no longer believes he is blessed with the kind of quality needed to make Liverpool title challengers.

“It [people being linked with your job] is something that happens, and it happens through every level, but you can never be too worried about it,” the Liverpool manager said.

“Sixteen months ago we nearly won the league, I was manager of the year, and 16 months later you are not so good at your job when you are actually better at your job.

“I don’t like to go on too much about it, but I think I have shown what I can do when I have the tools to work, what I can deliver. I don’t lose confidence in that. What I will always do is give my best to the club and if they decide they need to change, I totally respect that.

“I know I have given it everything and I would walk away and hopefully walk into another job where I would get a chance to create something special. But my focus is still very much on the now, and the now is making us the best we can be.”

Asked whether he would consider resigning if results fail to improve, Rodgers said that is not even under consideration. “No. No chance, no,” he replied. “My target in my own mind is to get to 1,000 games as a manager, and I know that over the course of that you are looking at the next 20-odd years.”

Having signed 31 players and sold 33 in the three years since he became manager, Rodgers believes that one of the reasons why Liverpool are struggling is that they are “constantly rebuilding”.

“There has been a lot of change and we have lost some big, big players here in terms of both character and quality,” he said. “You have to manage that change and do the best that you can.”

Rodgers may as well say he's been given his P45.

Everyone now knows he's a dead man walking. Ridiculous that he's still in the job at this point.

they've made nearly £400m on paper in 5 years on us, so why are they going to worry about making sure we don't overspend by £10m each season in the transfer window.

they believed they had the right model - they probably have but they recruited the wrong manager for the job. They didn't want to sell Torres, suarez or sterling but were put into difficult situations with regards to all three and they played hard ball and got outstanding money for all 3.

What we do isn't rocket science, clubs have been doing it for years but what fsg don't want to do is pay £50m for someone like Raheem sterling. I wouldn't want them to either, there are plenty of players available at the right price, we just need a manager who is willing to play them, because even though the committee haven't always delivered they have signed some potentially brilliant players.
Paper valuations ain't worth a carrot imo

The club will be worth what somebody is willing to pay for it

I can't see anyone paying anywhere near £700m for the club
