All this FFP has allowed us to be mugged off completely IMO. If FSG are here for the long haul they would invest heavily before FFP kicks in and ensure we stay amongst that top group of teams. However, by using FFP as an excuse we are stifling our own short term progression and by the time we may need some heavy investment our hands will be tied by FFP. Effectively we have allowed ourselves to be pushed to the back of the line.

I think it was the right choice sticking to our guns with that one. Demspey never convinced me he would do it at a higher level, and is proving that at Spurs. He is inconsistent. I think he would have proven to be an expensive stop gap. Nothing more. But in 2 years time when he is done, we would have had a player on high-ish wages on the books doing **** all. We dont need that anymore.*Except Michael, who died.

I think we probably dodged a bullet with Dempsey. Not getting him wasn't the issue for me.
The fact he was eventually identified as the primary target was more worrying. Of course, there may be many reasons for this. Not least, because the 15 choices above him may have already turned us down.Oh I don't know.

Thats my issue with Rodgers to be honest. No one can tell me there wasnt better players available for similar price on the continent.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI think we probably dodged a bullet with Dempsey. Not getting him wasn't the issue for me.

FWIW Dempsey has only scored 2 goals for Spurs. For someone who we were going to sign to score goals, Id say we defiantly dodged a bullet.*Except Michael, who died.

My issue isn't the player we missed out on - it's the fact that Carroll was allowed to leave on the basis that we were getting Dempsey and Rodgers has clearly stated that we wouldn't have let him go had we known that the deal wasn't going through. He got blindsided a little bit on that.Originally posted by dom9 View PostI think we probably dodged a bullet with Dempsey. Not getting him wasn't the issue for me.

clubs that are overspending now are going to have summers where they won't be able to invest in the next couple of years. soon there (might possibly) be nobody offering really silly money inn europe unless they're so far down the ladder already they don't anticipate playing in the continental leagues anyway. at least that's the idea. we'll see what happens, but trying to abide by the actual rules is fine by me.dave of mutilation

Yes as our form was relegation standard the second part of last season; I don't think it was an unrealistic assessment. It would have been easy to get sucked into a slump but Rodgers did well to stabilise things. Our squad lacks goals and it has been a major problem for the past 2 seasons and that is hindering our progress at this stage. Don't think we had it in us to be competing for 4th.Originally posted by Pablo1981 View PostA relegation battle? With our squad? WTF Nigey?

I'm realistic, Champions League was a long shot, but we should be better than 11th mate. Significantly better. I think your expectations have been Hodgsoned! Are we winning?

What a signing that's turned out to be and pretty much unchallenged too.Originally posted by el matador View Postdembele apart i think they wasted most of the modric money.
Maybe not now but if you remove all the emotions from it and look at our squad - Reina is a decent keeper, we have a good defense, a good midfield with options and it's really only up front where we're properly lacking.Originally posted by Nigey View PostDon't think we had it in us to be competing for 4th.
