    Some glimpses of a possible turn-around, what do you think?

    If he manages to repeat the improvement from the second half of his first season, coupled with some decent January transfers, would people keep him for next season as well?

      Seeing how FSG do business it's top 4 (or win the Europa League) or bust for Rodgers this season.

      In other words I'm 95% certain he will be sacked in May.

      It's weird how poor the football has been in all three of his seasons here while in the second half the football and results generally get better. The one consistent thing is the terrible defending... and that's not a good thing

        I think hell still be here next season if we pull back and finish top 6.

        Top 4 is still vaguely possible though

          Top 4 is very much on with Arsenal and manure playing as badly as us. The only thing we have in our favour is.....Rodgers. Sounds mad, but he's the only manager bold enough to play do or die stuff (successfully if past records are anything).

          However, I do think we've left it tooo late this time and we'll fall agonisingly short of 4th spot by a point or even goal difference. And the plan at the end of season 3 was year on year improvement and top 4 in the third year. What we achieved in the second year will only see him out until May, not beyond it.

              Arsenal had three shots on target all game, which indicates that the defensive system is fine. However, when two of those result in goals you've got to question the individuals. IMO I think all our defenders are decent, but both our keepers are hopeless. That spreads uncertainty at the back and people not concentrating on their own game. A solid keeper will make all the difference. As it would have last season.

                After losing the two best strikers in the league, Stevie fading fast, the collapse of our keeper and trying to incorporate about 6 new players.... it's really not that surprising.

                  Mate Skrtel was as bad as they come. He has been most of the season. Only Lovren and Johnson make him look less bad and that's not a positive for him to take away. Can't keep blaming the poor keepers (we know they're poor, they know they're poor).

                    As said by others, Rodgers is a front foot manager. And we were at our worst this year when Rodgers tried to be pragmatic. It worked to a certain extent actually, but it was horrible to watch and depressing to see him effectively give up and fall on his sword.

                    As is the norm with Rodgers, it's when everything is going against hi. that he gets a bit of luck. As Carra said tonight on MNF, Markovic getting sent off in the CL killed us, but we offered more in that 342 formation than we had in previous games and Rodgers saw a way in which we could be effective again.

                    I'll be a little fair here. We've gone from 4 at the back to 3 at the back overnight. And it hasn't been an easy settling in period with games thick and fast and games v MUFC, AFC & a tough cup tie against BFC. So I think things will get better. But we'll always concede, we'll never be a team that will break a clean sheet record like the Rafa one.

                    But we will score goals. And we will score a lot. Suarez was exceptional. But I've said it all along, we made him look good. Rodgers made him look a star. He was first class, but given the right type, I think Brendan can make another star. Another top player who will score goals for fun.

                    Sterling is fast. But he's not a striker. And he could've had a hat trick v the Mancs and could've had a hat trick v Bournemouth. Think what a good striker will do. They'll look like the best thing since the invention of the wheel. But they'll have to be the right type. Otherwise, the whole thing falls down.

                    Honestly, I reckon we could sign someone average in January like Vargas at QPR, and he'd bang in about 15 goals and look like a top prem striker in this system. I don't know what the committee were having on their cornflakes in the summer, but if they can get it right in January, our season is salvageable. Provided we have a good Xmas period.

                      Nail on head.....its all about the number 1 ... only then can we effectively judge our defenders.

                          New keeper (commanding and calm), replace Skrtel with a top quality cb, replace Lovren with a back-up cb, play Sakho, replace Borini with a top quality cf. This needs to be done in january if we are to reach top 4. In my opinion of course.
