Jesus, if he came out beaming and cracking jokes, he would be blamed of not taking the form crisis seriously. FFS, fella can't win.

I'm hoping this formation has some foundation and isn't him floundering around hoping to stumble on something.

I don't blame him for criticizing the media or behaving that way to the press.
I hate the British media coverage of football and I loved the disdain showed by King Kenny to the press.

However, once you start making enemy of the press, they will pounce at the first slip after this. Already articles highlighting his weaknesses would have been composed after this. At the first sign of trouble the press will gang up on him. Whether we like it or not, they really can turn on the pressure on a struggling manager.

brendans too moody. he should be doing jokes, close up sleight of hand magic tricks and maybe some david brent impressions so we all know he is best bum chums with his mates at the press.

I've not really been paying much attention to the table the last couple of weeks, just looked and we're 10 points behind 4th. TEN. CL chances are over, I reckon.

7 on the same amount today if we win tomorrow isn't it.

If we don't, I think it is over.

Where we are in the table highlights the pointlessness of sacking Rodgers because we are too far behind for that kind of change to make any difference to our top 4 chances. What's the point in muddling through with a temporary manager? IMO it's gone past the point of no return and we might as well (and should anyway) stick with him and see whether he can get to grips with the side and it's problems. If we accept top 4 is gone then if we finish 10 or 5th, it doesn't really matter, does it. From a selfish point of view if we can't get CL then I'd almost rather we missed out on the pointless Europa League.. If he can make us look like a CL side in the second half of the season then great, he can stay, but if we continue to be dog**** (I don't count beating a Bournemouth side who made 6 changes for the tin cup as a turnaround in form) then it's bye bye.

Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers goes on the attack over criticism

Liverpool FC boss Brendan Rodgers defends Wenger... and backs his Reds to come good again

Given his love of free-flowing football, it should be no surprise to see Brendan Rodgers on the attack again.

But rather than chasing goals, the Liverpool FC boss has the critics in his sights.

And with it comes empathy for the man he will be hoping to heap further misery upon at Anfield this afternoon.

If Rodgers has been subject to increasing scrutiny from observers this season, then Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has had to endure rough treatment from his own supporters.

Not least following defeat at Stoke City earlier this month, when Wenger was subjected to fearful abuse from a baying crowd while boarding the train back to London.

For Rodgers, it was too much.

“If you look at Arsene Wenger, he has been an iconic figure for football, he has been amazing,” says the Northern Irishman.

“You get criticised when you don’t win games but some of the personal stuff he takes is disgraceful. Absolutely disgraceful.

“The other week he was at Stoke and what happened was absolutely disgraceful. As a leading figure in football, a real statesman of the game, it was really poor.

“But that is the modern world. Unfortunately.

“Six or seven months ago I was the manager of the year and I was going to be this and that, tactically this and tactically that, because we lost two world-class players, one out of the club and one injured, I am useless.

                    “But I accept that.”

Liverpool FC's worst league start in 50 years – taking just 21 points from their first 16 games – has increased the scrutiny on Rodgers and his players, not helped by a failure to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Lining up to give their view are the succession of ex-Liverpool players working in the media, a perennial bugbear for former Anfield boss Gerard Houllier.

“I can vouch for that!” laughs Rodgers, who adds:

“Listen, it is the world we live in.

“Football is a critical world. But when you think of the past players, they would come in here and would need a bit of time to adjust and play.

“For some reason in the modern game, they don’t need that just because you have to pay more money for them.

“Players used to come into Liverpool and you wouldn’t have heard of them, they would be given time to develop, six months or a year or two years.

“Modern players because of the media and everything and social media, they don’t get that time.

“They come in and are expected to be unbelievable straight away. And young players.

“The sizes of the fees mean that. But that doesn’t take away (what I’m saying).”

Arsenal, too, have underwhelmed, although a mini-revival of three wins in four Premier League games has moved them two points off the Champions League qualification places and five ahead of Liverpool.

It is all a far cry from the Gunners’ last visit to Anfield in February when the then league leaders were blown away by four goals in the opening 20 minutes as Liverpool romped to a 5-1 triumph that saw them emerge as credible title contenders.

Rodgers, though, believes there have been signs in the past week at Old Trafford and the Goldsands Stadium his team may be rediscovering their verve.

“Yes, if you look at the speed in our game the other night, the tempo and intensity of our pressing and work, it was much closer to that,” he says.

“It is a fair point that people are looking at us and seeing that we haven’t been as dynamic as the last couple of years, but there are simple reasons for that.

                    “It should be clear, really.”

Rodgers has often used Borussia Dortmund as a yardstick for how Liverpool can once again compete at the top level.

And the Reds are discovering the same issues as the Bundesliga strugglers having lost their main attacking threat.

“You look at Jurgen Klopp’s example at Dortmund, there are certain players that will move on each year, but the minute he takes Lewandowski out, he is a world class player, it sometimes doesn’t matter about the other players,” says Rodgers.

“You see where they have been this year, where they are struggling.

“There are still top players in there. But if you lose two of those, I don’t care what team you are – let alone the team that has come through unexpectedly like we did last year but was improving and developing – you take that out, and it is a massive, massive loss to any group.

“It has taken us that bit of time to try and recover our way of working, to find the balance which to produce those type of performances and results, all without much coaching time.”

Rodgers adds: “I just think we are coming to terms with dealing with working in a different way. I have had to look at different solutions and different personnel and different areas to see if we can recapture our model of play.

“We are in a position now where we put in some good performances without getting results but we see players starting to improve slowly like (Lazar) Markovic who has taken time to come in, and others.

“We are in a position where we know we are going to improve and develop over the coming games. We just need to ensure we are doing it our way.”

And with this being Brendan Rodgers, the emphasis will, as ever, be on moving forward.

The team you need to focus on when looking at the table is Arsenal. We're currently 5 points behind them so beat them today and we're just 2 points behind.

I don't think West Ham and Southampton will keep their league form going the whole season and Spurs still blow hot and cold.

All that said I don't think we'll win today and I can't see us ending our habit of leaking too many goals with this manager so my guess is we'll finish about 7th.

7th will almost certainly be viewed by FSG very dimly indeed. The only thing that might save Rodgers from the chop is winning the Europa League... and I can't see us doing that either (although I'd love too see us win our 9th European trophy)

He seems to drop the "I was manager of the year last season and this season I am terrible in the eyes of some" line in every second or third interview at this point.

If you accept it Brendan, then stop bringing it up so often.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.
