Our next 6 games in the Pl are very winnable, with the size of the squad we have now there is no excuse for x amount of games in y days so we were tired etc.. etc...

      18 points please.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

Aye the pitch isn't brillinat is it. Thought he got us tactically pretty much spot on yesterday. The usual brain farts in defence but I guess he's just got to work with that at the momemt, bring in a proper striker and that side looks capable of at least pushing for a top 4 finish.

Unlikely we'll get there due to the points deficit to the Mancs and Arsenal but if we play like that for the rest of the season we won't be a million miles off.

Poor striking options is what's going to cost us ultimately this season

After the game Rodgers said it's not about organisation or setup. I beg to differ. The problem is clearly systemic. There was no Ming, Johnson or Lovren (three players heavily criticised this season and rightly so) but we're still shipping in goals. Until Rodgers realises it's not all down to personnel, and realises the issue is systemic and perhaps brings in better coaches to make us a more cohesive unit, we'll still have the same issues without the ball. I personally don't think he's ever going to find the right balance (2.5 years in charge and still no defensive improvement has lead me to believe this) however I am happy we look much better going forward.

It is both systematic and player specific, we have a compound problem though that Rodgers managers both aspects of this. He sets the team up, so any system fragilities are down to him, but he's also talent spotting and picking the players, so if he doesn't pick or buy the right players then we are always going to suffer from this.

I'm all for us remaining slightly dodgy at the back if we can blitz teams - but it means we need better defenders; less prone to brain farts and general **** play, as well as a consistent goal threat - aka an always fit Sturridge or someone of similar ability.

Rodgers said last season it was down to individual players so we changed the back four and were still leaking goals. Having a poor defence is the result of playing the attractive style of football he wants where people are constantly moving around the pitch to make themselves available for the pass.

That's going to leave spaces for other teams to exploit. But its the ease in which theyre going straight through us.

Defending is a real blind spot for him. He has no clue how to organise a defence or sort the problem. Hasn't managed to do so in 2.5 seasons. Look how easily Giroud scored. 3 CBs in the box and not one closed him down. The seasons are littered with goals like that. Even some of Utds goals, lose the ball in attack and it led to goals

Like you said, glad to see an improvement in attack, but defence will be a massive issue. No amount of personnel changes/signings will sort it. FSG need to tell him to bring in a defensive coach

Both Arsenal goals were more down to individual errors as opposed to systemic issues with the way we play.

Don't wanna come across all Redspin here but if Brendog is making our defence systematically ****e and not just systemically, he defo needs sacking.
                            3rd place. Worst champions ever.

There is a lot in that analysis. I think there is also an issue of combinations (i.e. we seem to have no covering CB in the style of Henchoz or Carvalho say).

I do think though that before we write off the current system we need to see a few more games. Defenders often say three at the back is a different discipline which takes time to learn. We may well see significant improvements as we settle into it.

Long term though it is true that Rodgers needs to adapt and/or look to get in specialist help if he wants to keep his job.
