We need to look threatening going forward and mean in defence

    We're neither. We're just ****.

I'm enormously sceptical as to his ability to do this

I just dont see progress and in fact I think some parts of our game are degrading at an alarming rate

That said hes got the January window to address those issues

But if there is no top managers, where do you go? You have to stick or twist. We gambled on Rodgers. Spurs would have took him had we not, we weren't the only ones gambling in the summer.

Back to your question. Is he worth sticking with and can he take us where we want?

I think there is no question, that with the right set of players his system will work. It is one that when done correctly, makes average players seem better than they are. As Rodgers has said all a long, and no one should be under any illusions to think otherwise - in the learning stages there will be massive lows.

The toughest pill to swallow is not knowing how long it will take before he has a team of players who know the system. Obviously, the more players he brings in, the better we will get over time.

But it is so hard watching. If the players don't press together, it leaves massive gaps. I think Rodgers was foolish to ask his team to do so straight off. He should have organised a set block defence of lines ala Houllier and then built on that.

Rodgers main problem and inability is that he tries too much too soon. He did it at Reading and should have learned. At Swansea they were already a patient, passing side. So it was just about asking them to press in The right areas.

At LFC, we were a passing side, but we were more counter attacking than patient pass & move. So his methods are a total alien concept both offensively and defensively.

Obviously, doing it all at once will be great when it all clicks. But it will be difficult until then, and though we are getting there, I think the past week or so has shown we still have some distance to go.

But Rodgers is confident enough, is a good enough coach and employs a system that will be pleasing to watch as well as suit a top team perfectly when acted out in the correct manner.

So he will get us there if given enough time. I'd worry if this time next year we were still 8 points of the top 4.

And whilst I don't see us finishing top 4 this year, simply because too many teams are ahead of us, I think we will finish closer than 8 points. Which would mean we would have improved in the second half of the season.
              Great post

I never know how we're going to play, there is absolutely no consistency. We go from a 4-0 win to being out fought and out thought by Stoke - ok their home form is decent, but a couple of years ago we would have found a way and not looked so insipid.

We're 6 months in, and I don't think the botched transfer window can be used as a free pass for Brendan to avoid criticism. If we think that not buying Clint Dempsey or another striker is the reason we're in trouble, then we as a fan base are being hugely deluded.

There have been some strange and plain bad team line-up decisions, and I don't see how Brendan can get off scot free for the last transfer window **** up - he was directly involved after all.
6 months a go we would have found a way? We haven't won at Stoke in the entire Premier League era.

And Stoke are in the best form of their lives at home at the moment.

Re Skrtel, I don't understand why people regard Agger as a great CB. He's possibly our most over-rated player by fans and I'd rather keep Skrtel than Agger myself if we are to lose one.

Brendan has definitely been dealt a **** hand with our squad but that doesn't mean he's doing his bit well. He's not yet.
The squad should also be good enough to organise into a functional unit with the ability to press the ball

That to me is a fundamental we are frequently failing at

What I dont get is that on the odd occasion I have heard Brendan talk about tactics etc.. hes impressed me with his knowledge and ability to describe what should have happened or should be being done in any given situation

Yet that knowledge doesnt in any way seem to be translating from inside his mind to the players out there on the pitch

That would be mitigation if they were just great, but we were also gash.

After that summer Carroll was injury free and Kenny played him too often a long with Downing on the left instead of Maxi and Henderson on the right instead of Kuyt. They were much worse and we suffered. When Bellamy played we looked better.

Now, Rodgers has no Kuyt & Maxi to turn too. Instead, he's had to turn too Suso, Shelvey and Sterling. When they've hit dips in form and run out of gas, he's had to go back to Downing & Henderson, Cole etc.

I am sorry. But clearly, our squad of players is simply not good enough. In fact, it's wank. Teams will always raise their game against Liverpool so we need much better players than what we have.

Suso, Shelvey, Sterling & Borini should be playing in the League Cup and the Europa, not regulars in side the size of Liverpool.

Gillet & Hicks ****ed up our best squad of players in years and then inept transfer dealings by Kenny & Commoli finished the job when they had a great chance to make us a top 4 side again.

It disgusts me. And I love Kenny, but I'm very sorry here. Name me one other club who has spent about £100m and made their team WORSE.

He had Roy's squad flying and then ****ed it up.
Don't be sorry, I agree with you!

whichever one you rate, i'd like to bring in someone better. bringing in a defender that's not absolutely top class is unthinkable. but i do think the partnership could be improved. they are not the best back 2 we've ever had.

I don't have any faith in Rodgers to turn it around. The players we have available are yet another downgrade on the previous seasons playing staff ... who's fault is all this? My guess is its FSG's.

Since the USA have been involved with our club we have gone from perennial champions league qualifiers to mid/low table mediocrity with the odd flirt with relegation .. I have no more confidence in FSG now than I had with H&G ..

And I don't like the way Rodgers pawns himself to the media. I don't think he actually comes over that smart or clever ..
