I agree that the comparison of the last 19 games of Kenny vs the first of Brendan is unfair. I do think though that Rodgers is offering a clear direction forward and Dalglish seemed to have lost that towards the end. That may be a misinterpretation from outside though. Changing manager and philosophy too often is the worst thing we could do now IMO.
I agree with all of it but I agree with that especially. Pattern implies meaning but maybe the pattern isn't the one we think we see..
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

I meant we'd be in the top 4 now with the points that Kenny had at this stage last season.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWe were not in the top 4 under Kenny.
Why did you think changing system and coaches will not have an effect exactly?
Changing the system will have an effect initially, but not 6 months in, its not chess is it, its a bloody simple game being played by lads who've been playing football all their lives. I think people need to stop using this as an excuse now, there are other areas where I think excuses are valid, as in the squad cull which saw a fair few experienced players leave, but then I don't know if this was Rogers choice or FSG's, or both. The fact is we're leaking goals, worse off than this time last year and only consistent in being inconsistent. I have no faith that Rogers will do any better over the last 19 than Kenny did as there's no evidence to indicate it.SakhoPotatoes

That's not answering my question Matt. What is it you are finding difficult in answering a simple question on whether you feel Rodgers has made mistakes and what could he do to stop us from leaking goals with the players he currently has. All you've done is criticize the players so far.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostNo it is not. But if you think that you feel free.

Whether for or against BR they are all valid points. However at the end of the day the players must take some responsibility. A culture of almost expecting to lose has crept in to the LFC way of play over the past few seasons. The players mentality needs to change, but most disappointing of all there is no fight in the squad, only two players showed fight yesterday. Other than Suarez and Enrique yesterday, the rest of the dopes were mopeing around feeling sorry for themselves.
The dressing room needs somebody to smash ****ing tables and chairs in the dressing room and shout like a crazy mother ****er before each game! And from watching that documentary we know we don't get that from our captain or our BR. We need some ****ing anger management, as in make the ****ing players rage. The players should be thinking there families lives have been threatened by the opposing team, anything just to give them some ****ing fight, mental toughness. We are the nicest team in the league, we hand the points out like sweets. Until this stops we are going nowhere fast.

And in most of those games, teams used the space between defence and midfield to their advantage, coupled with individual errors. The work Kenny and Clarke did on this area in the first 12 months of their reign was excellent. Then Lucas got injured and it all unravelled from there onto the Rodgers era, which has not rectified it as of yet.

We're not defending well, it's clear. But I've just checked Rafa's first season and we lost 14 times in the league (11 away from home) and finished 37 points off the top. A year later and we finished 11 points behind in 3rd place.
Difficult to compare but I do remember how hard it was for Rafa to get his ideas across and some dross he had to bring in to plug the deficiencies in the squad. Are we winning?

This in itself implies that Rodgers needs some time. I was one of those that thought Dalglish deserved more time too. The only thing that worried me about Dalglish was that he had a winning formula and then he scrapped it by buying Downing, Carroll etc. It was the money that ruined us in a way, it was just spent in the wrong way. I think if Rodgers had that kind of money to spend we'd see us go after some big names.
EDIT: Not to be taken in a way I'm trying to get at Kenny because I think he could have turned it around. I can see why the owners felt he should go though.

Remember him saying that some of the players didn't even understand his drills. Now how do we know this isn't happening with Rodgers right now?
What Rodgers has said regarding the summer seems to me that he's going to overhaul the team, but he's going to try and do it without risking alienating the major players at the club (Gerrard, Carragher, Reina). With that in mind, he'll bring in players who can absorb his ideas best, and have shown they can do it at previous clubs (i.e. Sturridge, who was excellent under Villas Boas on the right hand side).
For me, we've also got three potential new signings: Borini and Lucas (due back and recovering from injury) and Allen (not played in his best position for a while and became exhausted).
When you look at it on paper, our squad is poor bar our defence. We're counting on developing youth to supplement an underachieving, demotivated (Premier League challengers to the brink of administration and struggling to finish in the top 8) side. The attitude of the players is poor too. There is so much work to be done, and Rodgers in his interviews has shown that he knows what they are, and is clearly relying on January and the summer to get his plans in his place.

I believe Borini is a good player. Think Sterling should be put on sparingly when he is back and a three pronged attack of Suarez, Borini and Sturridge would be good. Basically Sturridge is known as the laziest of the 3. Having two hard workers either side of him will create chances for him. The amount of times Suarez has won the ball in an advanced position because of his constant pressing on defenders is phenomenal. Borini has a similar work rate ethic.
