Fantastic goal but he should not of started tonight his passing and set pieces apart from the goal were horrific

Gerrard is a Liverpool legend I don't want him to tarnish his legacy, impact sub is the only position for the rest of season and hopefully then retire with a trophy.

But Brendan does not have the bottle to limit his involvment.

He was pretty awful tonight alright as for most of season, free kick was class though.

What a player though, best LFC of all time no question.

Really is mate, you hate to see an absolute legend and hero to so many LFC fans struggle & diminish.

Every dog has it's day though & happens to all the greats too. He deserved more in his career

It is so sad seeing him struggle to cope with the games now, a faded force, yet still the one we look to for inspiration when we are up against it. He has played that superhero role for so many years, seeing him struggle like this makes me feel like I did when I was a kid watching Superman when they put Kryptonite around his neck.....

The Manager has failed him I'm afraid. He has had more than enough resources (and the time) to have built a team with enough class players in it so we would not have to rely on Stevie. He should be a luxury for us, bringing him on when we are cruising or just needing a calming influence on the pitch.

It's a sad state of affairs and I really wish we had done better for him, but alas it seems he will probably have to sever those ties with us sooner rather than later.

No matter what happens, for me he will forever remain the greatest English player of all time and our best ever by an absolute country mile.

              Great post.

Apart from the part where the Manager has failed him, don't agree with that.

He was brilliant for us last year.

Incredible free kick. So much pressure, so much intensity. 44,000 fans singing his song, begging him to save us. He looked knackered, I thought no way could he possibly compose himself enough to even hit the target. But **** me, what a legend he is, steps up and responds to the fans signing his song by planting it right in the top corner

Words can't describe what a legendary player he is, just magical

Compare this performance with Sunderland and that is why he should be coming off the bench. He just doesn't have the legs to start games anymore.

Great goal last night, and I think it's harsh putting so much weight on his performance right now. He like the rest of the team it playing in a group that lacks confidence, and a group of players that can't find eachother on the pitch and generally very poor movement up front. Hard being a playmaker when nobody outside Sterling makes any sensible runs. He doesn't look particularly good, but he doesn't look worse than the rest neither.

For example last night, Gerrard where the only one taking any sort of responsibility in the second half. Okay Markovic tried untill that stupid lash with the arm, but other than that Gerrard were the only one I saw upping his tempo and running more. Even made the goal nearly coming back, almost got us a penalty by running deep and created to good chances playing the ball deep.

He might not be the player he was 5 years ago, but he is far from over and it's not quite fair to judge him on carrying the team like in the past - eventhough we keep looking at him to do so. Gerrard would be a better player in a better functioning team, as could be said by many, but he still seems our only source of inspiration when it looks the worst...

Yeh, he wasn't great but he was no worse than Lucas and Henderson. He was surrounded by **** but everyone expected him to get us over the line. He's a lot better when playing with better players.

Yeah, I think Gerrard was sending a clear message with that interview. My jaw hit the table when he said that so blatantly. Normally the club line is to stick to cliches but his words were angry yet targeted.

If he's in Rodger's camp then its a big slight at the owners for setting up such a sh*t committee. He's done Rodgers' job for him by outing the committee.

If Rodgers has final say on purchases then its a huge dig at him. Maybe one that Rodgers can't recover from and he's a goner.

Either way, Gerrard is looking after the club using the only thing he has left to offer: his legend.

laughed when he said "we need to get our best striker back from injury and firing again. We also need to get Mario Balotelli back too"
