And then come back in ten years' time.

Don't blame him for saying no, he can do better than them. Saw something that said he wanted to immediately challenge at the top end, whereas the owners wanted a "gradual climb up the table". Weird.

If that's true, surely it just means he wanted a substantial transfer budget from the off, they wanted tighter spending and gradual building of a team. Seems fair enough from both perspectives.... though Rafa is going to have to be prepared to take on a, ahh. more "difficult" project soon as it seems like the top job offers, for whatever reason, aren't exactly flooding in.

Indeed but given how much his family hated Italy last time - albeit in a far grimmer place - then IMO it would've had to have been a near perfect offer football-wise to tempt him.

Apart from Real Madrid, Manchester City, Malaga, PSG and Liverpool, there isn't much out there for him if he wants a perfect job.

The first two show no signs of getting rid of their managers and even if they did, there are others in the queue, PSG went for Ancelotti instead, Malaga are sticking with Pellegrini and the Liverpool post has been available twice and we've not gone for him.

He's going to have to go for the least risky job. It's make or break for him.

I would imagine the leeds job would be perfect for him if they got serious backers taking over...

Former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez remains focused on getting another job in England but recognises he needs to be open to other options.

The Spaniard has been out of work since being sacked by Inter Milan in December 2010 and this week talks with Sampdoria broke down.

While admitting he was flattered by the Italian club's interest, Benitez, who was in the past linked with Chelsea, admits finding another Premier League club is the priority.

He told Sky Sports News: "Sampdoria was very serious, very professional and they have a project.

                    Rafa backs Spain
"My idea is to find a club that can match my desire, my expectations to challenge for trophies.

"This time (Sampdoria) was really good, I was really pleased as they were thinking of me but I am waiting for maybe another option.

"The priority is England but I have to be ready for any other challenge.

"I try to find someone that will be at the top and take on the challenge for trophies, the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League so something that you can win."

I think Rodgers and Kenny are great, but Rafa should still be with us.

I wanted him to get the LFC job but we need to forget about him (in LFC terms) for now.

Yeah, saw him on Sky Sports yesterday and there'll always be a pang of "he should never have been allowed to leave"

                            BUT

We have a new start now. Its what should have happened when Roy left. Rodgers talks well, I am hoping he's going to prove to be someone worthy of Liverpool's support.

I'm very interested in seeing how Rodgers does. It's quite exciting and I'm cautiously optimistic.

He said Liverpool has changed, become more of a 'brand' now. It was kind of sad to see really because it does genuinely feel like he has unfinished business here. Seems like we will never know what may have been if he had been re-appointed.
