The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Can't abide the nouveau-riche ****s and their self aggrandising, inflated fan opinions. They'll fall away and I won't care about them then, much the same as Leeds.

People want to discuss them because this is a discussion forum. Be a bit pointless have a general football section if this was Liverpool only.

With hindsight maybe the views are different but that's largely due to who replaced him rather then realising it would maybe have been better if he had stayed. I'm sure anyone who wanted him gone didn't invisige who his replacement would be.

Anyway, I don't get the need to discuss either of them now that they are where they are, but that's just me, others wish we still had Rafa and that's why this thread is still going strong IMO.
Nope, I did envisage it well before he actually got the boot, let alone before his replacement was announced. Sure, I didn't predict the exact person but that's irrelevant. I knew whoever replaced him would be inferior. And I was far from the only one to say so at the time. And we were right.

It was obvious to anyone who wasn't deluding themselves - e.g. CraigH and his "sincere belief" that Mourinho as good as had a plane standing by - that we were in no position to attract anyone as good as him. That's where "it's a ****ing nightmare" came from in the first place.

I don't see the harm in the thread going anyway. People can ignore it if they want to. But I hope you now feel better informed about why people missed him then and miss him now. It's not all just an emotional attachment.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Seemed like a decent bloke though so I wish him well.

Agreed. He was hardly going to turn down the move and wished the club well when he left unlike some.

I must admit I disliked Rafa intensely during his LFC days. I thought he had no class compared to Josè.

He tried. Not his fault that he wasn't good enough for us but I hope he does well in the future.

I felt it was time he went when he did, however I said many times that I only wanted him gone if he could he properly replaced. I dispute your assertion that that would've been impossible, indeed the one I wanted was interviewed but sadly overlooked (Pellegrini).

I'll ignore the thread cos I see no reason to discuss him, just wondered why others did, I would hope that people missing Rafa won't allow that to stop them fully supporting Brendan, sometimes it seems to me that for some those two aren't compatible.

Pellegrini? Hmm, I'd still have seen that as a downgrade. Of course nowhere near as big as the one we got, but still.

I don't think rating Benitez highly means not giving time and support to Rodgers. I think it's a mistake to attribute motivations to others like that. For instance, I don't know about Rodgers so it's fair to say my support for him is qualified. But that's not because I like Benitez but because the signs so far are mixed. I'm hopeful but remain to be convinced.

I don't need to be convinced about Rafa though because he's a top, top manager.

Although I don't know why I've written all this since I've just noticed you've said you're going to ignore the thread...

I was visiting until your response was issued as I'm sure it deserved to be read. :-)

I don't believe any manager would have done too well with us over the last few seasons until we got rid of H+G, be that Rafa or anyone, I felt Rafa should go but not before they did and said so many times during the final season . I feel he was worn down by it all and lost focus on the job in hand IMO. The decision was made though and once it was the best thing to do was hope for the best man available and for a change in fortunes.

                                We got neither.
