that was the year that should have been imo.

very very unfortunate that united found some reprobate to score them a couple of last minute goals and now the guy is nowhere to be seen.

That side was absolutely brilliant. ruthlessly efficient.

Remember who was man of the match? Kinda astounding that after a £20m transfer to us, that's easily gonna be the biggest contribution he's made to our history.

                Warnock is truly a cunt.

Blaming Rafa for their relegation is hilarious. Maybe he should have, you know, won some more games himself?

                  Wrong season/results for United too.

I've already posted LFC's results post 'rant'.

                  As I said, some 'collapse'.

2.28 points per game post 'rant' - our points per game pre 'rant' was 2.25. You can't control what opponents do.
I spotted it earlier knew i was wrong, checked it and went bollox!!!! but had to go out to work

                  Anywayyyyss

Here is the correct season, after the rant we got 5 draws and 2 wins in next 7 games, United won 9 games in a row. Speaks for itself really.

                  21 10.01.2009 Stoke City--------(A)------D 0-0---46
                  22 19.01.2009 Everton ----------(H)------D 1-1---47
                  23 28.01.2009 Wigan Athletic--(-A)------D1-1----48
                  24 01.02.2009 Chelsea----------(H)------W 2-0---51
                  25 07.02.2009 Portsmouth ------(A)------W 3-2---54
                  26 22.02.2009 Manchester City-(H)------D 1-1----55
                  27 28.02.2009 Middlesbrough----(A)------L 0-2---55

I was mortified at the time when the whole rant happened, and those stats above are even more glaring than the incorrect ones i posted as time frame fits. The rant went the wrong way Rafa thought it would go, so i agree with Danny on this one It gave a worried United side the incentive and motivation, their stats were incredible after that.

EDIT: I Probably should't have posted this in Brendan Rogers thread, sorry mods

I disagree. It is clearly Rafa's fault that Sheffield United lost 2-1 at home to Wigan on the last day of the season which meant they finished in 18th, a single goal behind, er, Wigan.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Considering we drew a lot of games that season taking that small selection to form a bad correlation is pretty worthless actually. United's run was not unexpected.

The form i have highlighted is nearly 2 months after the rant, so it's not really worthless, time frame coincides.

From after that was fantastic but too little too late as United didn't give us anything.

EDIT: Point being lot of people saying Rafa got into Fergie's head etc clearly that wasn't the case.

I know where you're coming from on this and believe me I was mortified too, Rafa ranting on about facts like a teacher no-one likes or listens to - we've all had them! But hey, I guess it's just the way the cookie crumbles on this one.

Still, I don't think you're doing yourself any favours with selecting those games. Seven games is easily enough, don't worry about what our Matt says with his boring ideas about sample sizes and statistical whatnots - YAWN!

No, my problem with the seven games you've chosen, me old mate, is that two of them were victories. Just two out of seven, that's about 10% or something, I don't know I'm not Einstein or Professor Brian Fox, FFS!

Anywayyysss, whatever the stattos might tell us, two out of seven is a small minority so really they're not typical of the rest of the games in that period of time. So I think we should ignore the points we got from them because they distort the figures.

So, anyhoo, me old muckeroo, that means we got just the five points from the five draws in those seven games. That's 5 little old points from 20 or 22 or whatever. 5 fer chrisssakessss!

No wonder Rafa soon left the club in a fit of pique like a wuss. You can say what you like, it's just my opinion and people are feel free to disagree with it, but you can't argue with facts. Facts, I tells ye!

i know it was selective of me to chose the those 7 games, but the point of me doing that was to show the immediate after effect of the rant and compare it to United, who won 7 games in a row in comparison to us winning 2. I was more so highlighting the effect it had on United and in my opinion it worked against us. It was a bad move by Rafa and was unnecessary.

Anywaysssssss.... we're all entitled to our opinions on it, always a controversial subject so me thinks i'll stop here.

                              P.S. I love you

We're currently on our third manager since Rafa got the boot, and have spent well over £100 million since, so to blame Benitez for our current plight doesn't make much sense. We are rubbing shoulders with the likes of West Ham, Norwich and Swansea - teams that have until recently been playing outside of the Premier League and have had nowhere near the resources we've had.
